I've driven a few different trucks for the last few years, but finally decided that it would be ok to ditch the bed and just get a trailer for whatever I need to haul.

I used to have a white Tacoma that I loved, It was great, and when they came out with a re-design in 2016 I got a new one with every intent of building it out. Well that never happened, I just never felt like I wanted to do anything to it.

456622291_photobucket_23463_.jpg

I don't have any pictures of the Tacoma after that, but I'm sure anyone can find a stock tacoma picture.

That brings me to today, about a month ago, after 6 months thinking about it I went out and picked up a new JL rubicon.
I had to wait until the JLs came out because I didn't want to go away from proximity entry and all the fancy things inside.

here is the day I picked it up.

IMG_20180417_194833.jpg

The first thing I went for was a 2.5" RC spacer lift. I made this decision based of the fact that it's my daily driver and it has pretty solid reviews.
IMG_20180422_182441.jpg

It's nice to work on things when they are clean.
IMG_20180419_135146.jpg

Next I added a DV8 FS-16 front bumper you know, to hold the winch that has been sitting my garage for 2 years.

IMG_20180426_064004.jpg

Then some 37" general grabbers.

IMG_20180427_155748.jpg

IMG_20180428_091646.jpg

That's where I'm at today, I'm still trying to figure out a few things, like what PSI to run in my tires, I'm at 28 right now and seems like it's still a bit too much in the center.

IMG_20180428_081305.jpg

I see it mentioned quite a bit what the backup camera looks like so here is mine.

IMG_20180428_080931.jpg

Keeping going I went ahead and made a mat for the back out of a 14.00 floor mat from lowes. Not the best, but it keeps things protected for now.
IMG_20180511_084123.jpg

I also had a chance to get out to Uwharrie a bit, so here is a pic after it got dirty, it was dry so cleanup wasn't too crazy.
IMG_20180512_135709.jpg

And a little bit of mall crawling action since this was in an actual mall parking lot.

download_20180519_191759.jpg

Added a shelf to the back, would have been nicer had I not used scrap plywood, but it was a $20 mod with the plasti-dip coating included. (excuse the dust)

IMG_20180522_155152.jpg

IMG_20180527_172759.jpg

Put some Artec sliders underneath, this is the only shot I have of that so far
IMG_20180701_115933.jpg

Then I thew bedliner on the interior and got rid of the carpets.
IMG_20180628_111122.jpg

Then I added a usb port to the top of the dash for my GPS setup.
IMG_20180628_122426.jpg

IMG_20180628_133155.jpg

After that we got a set of method standards put on.

IMG_20180630_172413.jpg

JCR rear bumper (Tire carrier is on the way..)
IMG_20180629_162631.jpg

And I took it out for a little spin/ camping trip.

IMG_20180701_115720.jpg

IMG_20180701_092121.jpg

Last but not least I installed a Rock Krawler X factor lift. ( no pic yet)
IMG_20180701_182240.jpg

After installing my rear tire carrier and a full load my bad end seems to squat a bit too much so I went up to a 3.5" lift in the rear.

IMG_20180725_130836.jpg

here it is after the new springs.

IMG_20180801_195009.jpg

There is also a good chance I may have gotten stuck

IMG_20180724_131544.jpg

This happened before I got stuck, but I ended up getting a service shifter code, so I got to figure out how it looked on a tow truck.

I'm also working on making a shelf for the back. I had to make it into 2 pieces so I could easily take it in and out whenever I wanted to.

Would love to get measurements, or dimensions on the back shelf. I want one to cover up my subwoofer

Here is what I have currently, I didn't put the holes because I had to ream mine on to fit easily and that means my initial measurements were bad.

The reason the shelf is cut in half, and the bottom half of the shelf is 1.5" shorter and has the corners cut is so you can take it in and out without removing anything but bolts.

If I were to re-do the shelf, which I still may I would make the top half about 1.5-2" shorter to fit the bag that holds the freedom panels. I would also curve the bottom a bit better since it takes a bit of problem solving until you know exactly how to get it in and out.

Something like this may work. After drawing it out, it makes me want to build mine again...

Keep in mind this one is not tested at all. I wanted to take the bottom mounting points down to 1" because the bolt will fit still, but I feel like you would heavily increase the chances of it breaking.

You caught me at a good time when I was already playing with it. I went back outside, I'm not sure if there really is a good way to store the freedom panels. you can cut the shelf back probably 3" or you can just leave them home. I didn't really like how the block out almost all of your rear view when standing up.

I have the soft top so no freedom panel worries for me but everyday I wonder if I made the right call. I’m in AZ so it is really flexible to have a soft top but I really love how the hard top looks.

Love those red letters on the general grabbers, though I would rotate the spare so it doesn't show on the backup camera. Great looking jeep.

I get that, in NC I felt like the hard top was a bit better in the winter, I also grew up in Michigan so I'm always winter concerned.

That would be interesting, however I placed the rear tire so the lettering is almost correctly horizontal. I can't wait until 2 tire rotations when I will have a tire that has almost perfect letter placement.

I also added my hi-lift and shovel to my shelf today, I've had these mounts sitting around for a few years, why not put them to use. another addition I may may to the shelf is putting some pegs in so the 2 parts don't create a seam when they flex independently.

IMG_20180527_172759.jpg

I think the next additions are probably sliders and a 2.5" x-factor lift from rock krawler. Waiting for that perfect rear bumper // roof rack.

Shelf thoughts Ep.2 .. If I were to move the hi-lift to the back, and mount the shovel underneath.. I could fit my maxtracks there and keep everything inside the vehicle. All while still having enough room to sleep with a cooler, recovery gear, and food.

I've been kind of hesitating for no good reason, but today I ordered a 2.5" Rock krawler lift, Falcon shocks, JCR crusader rear, JCR shield tire carrier, Rock Hard 4x4 sliders, and a CAD skid. Hopefully this week there will be some Artec sliders installed and some method standard wheels on before I get the lift.
