Was a crazy day on the trail for sure! Seems like upper Ajax is not for someone on 35s and stock axles for sure. All of the lines seem like they would really stress the components to the limits. The upper "scenic" bypass was also pretty tough down by the mine. Not sure a stock JLU could make it with no lift or 35s. It was pretty washed out in a few spots.

No, 35s and stock axles are fine. You just need to know the lines and limitations. However, I'd agree that no lift (even on 37s) is going to be tough on this trail. Unfortunately, Jeep just did a poor job of designing for clearance on the JLUR (and JKUR as well). I'd say a 2" lift is a definite plus on that trail...probably more of a necessity.
Sorry, meant to say 35's and stock suspension. (On a JLUR) Not sure how a sport or Sahara front axle would do with 35s on the trail. I do think 37s and larger on the stock axles / u-joints are a weak point with the JL. I plan to run RCV on my 2020 down the road. I have had many people I know get the front tires in a bind and have something snap. So far no one has had the actual gears in the differential break somI guess that's a plus. Saturday's break was the first like that I have seen here in AZ, most of the carnage like that I know of was in Moab where there are a lot more spots to bind up in. My lockers were stuck on during my last Broken Arrow trip up by submarine rock, I thought for sure my u-joint snapped as it popped loud just like when 4xnaz snapped. I think the fact that I was still on 33s saved me. I had to run most of the trail in 2wd as if I put it in 4h or 4l it was locking both front and rear. Won't miss that 2019 at all lol.

Didn't mean to come across as a know it all....just have run my share of 37/38" tires and D44s and Toyota axles.
What size Ujoints are in the JL axle (specifically the 186/ dana 30)

How the axle break happen? Undercut on the big boulder you drive over on the driver side (if it's the last obstacle I'm thinking of), or were you cranked over hard on the steering?

The obstacle I'm talking about is literally right after you go through that grove of bushes/trees in the wash, then you turn hard passenger and climb over the big boulder. It's probably only a couple hundred yards from the concrete structure where the mine is as the crow flies.
I think they call that "The Waterfall".. I did it a few weeks back.. It's pretty binary - pass or fail.. Some kid almost flipped his jeep backwards on it when I was there --- trying his best to fail..

Here at about 4:00 they start going over the M186 and about 7:45 he says the joint is a 1350 so that's the same as M210

I find it interesting the old D44 u-joint of 5-297X which later became the 5-760X is classified as a 1310 but has 1-3/16" caps

The newer axles use the 5-7166X which is classified as a 1350, but same diameter caps

FWIW

Left (in the bottom pic) is the ubiquitous 5-760X (previously the 5-297X) used in D44's FOREVER.... right is the 5-7166X "1350" the JL uses at the knuckles.

The caps are a bit longer so theoretically you get longer needles and that can't be a bad thing.
