Joint compound between body panels?

Can anybody confirm that this seam between panels (above the rear bumper and below the gate hinge) is not metal? Took in the car for a warranty assessment on this crack and was told this was a joint compound that they’ll strip out, replace, and repaint.

It looked and felt like metal to me. Can somebody relieve my concerns?

The car is 3 weeks old. I brought it into the only Chrysler body shop in my area and when I pressed him on his assertion that the joint wasn’t actually metal he started yelling at me. I then asked to see the car after everything was “stripped away” in order to ensure they’re not covering anything up and he refused. Pretty annoyed right now.

I applied paint with a mopar paint pen when I first discovered it in order to get an initial seal over the bare metal for the short term.
