So this is my first post and I'm heartbroken that it has to be under these conditions. I'm basically posting because I'm scared this is going to go downhill fast and I wanted to get a log going and make my issue known.

I have a new 2018 Sahara with a 6cyl that I've owned for about a month and a half. It's my first Wrangler. Yesterday while out running around I went to start it and it took a couple presses of the ignition to get it to crank. I was close to home and decided to go home and see if I could recreate and get an idea of what the issue might be before I went to the dealer unarmed. Well I get it into the garage and turn it off. Wait 30 seconds and hit the ignition and get nothing but a click from under the hood and the check engine comes on. Tried several times throughout the hour or so and nothing. A truck came and got it and it's at the service center right now. The ESS was working during my ride home and the electronics would come on. I'm at a loss on where to begin guessing.

I really dont want this to become my life and the only reason I bought new was to have some kind of comfort in knowing I could rely on it. If anyone has seen anything like this before and can point in the right direction would be appreciated. Until then I'm hoping for the best.

While it absolutely sucks, I would recommend not stressing it too much at this point. After all, it's under warranty and could be something simple. See what the dealer says and report back.

Seconded. Shouldn't be too difficult to sort out.

I would not stress too much over this. Sounds like you have a dead battery. Most likely the smaller ESS battery under the main battery is dead or has gone bad. There have been a few posts with the same behavior and it getting traced back to the battery.

Keep us updated on what fixes the issue.

No matter what you purchase that is made by humans (and robots) you are bound to have some issues with it. Sounds like a quick diagnosis and fix and probably will have nothing to do with the longevity or function of your vehicle over the ownership period. Frustrating, yes...life ending, no! I've purchased Chevys and Fords in the past and have had minor issues but were all resolved.

You're going through the "burn in" period and I think you'll be fine.

I'm sure it won't be long that there will be forum members telling you to "sue FCA" or demand a brand new vehicle, etc. Forget them, just proceed and work with your dealer to get this resolved. Don't get distracted and stressed with some of the whack jobs that you'll soon hear from.

Update. Called the dealership this morning after 2 days of not hearing anything. They told me they have a new starter and harness coming Tuesday. Fingers crossed.
On a side note I really regret taking their Wrangler as the loaner. It just reinforces the separation anxiety I have from not having mine lol.

This is basically what I'm trying to tell my wife. Shes more up in arms about it than me. I've calmed down a bit after I got an update. Now I'm just anxious to get it back and feel like myself in my orange beauty.

I understand!! I can't wait to drive mine everyday. I've added the Sunrider top to my Unlimited and ditched the two front freedom panels which are heavy and awkward to handle. Now that the weather is warm, I've experienced "fresh air in the hair" and it feels good. Good luck for Tuesday and enjoy yourself.

So both the starter and the harness failed? I wonder if they tested the Aux battery. The symptoms of a bad Aux battery are similar to the symptoms of a bad harness or starter.

@Jebiruph
Earlier when I read the OP's post, I said the same thing to myself.... it's probably a bad Aux battery and not the starter and the harness.... guess we will see...........

I really couldnt tell you how they came to that conclusion. I want to trust that they're competent but I do agree that the aux battery would of been the first place I looked. The only things I can note on the symptoms were that the ESS was definitely working throughout the day, when it did die there were some electronic clicks every time I hit the button no crank at all and i remember a distinct electronic hum or buzz coming from the car after. The kind of sound like an old CRT would make

A quick non-update: after 2 days of unsuccessful attempts to contact the dealer and get an update I have reached out to jeep cares. Shortly after I did that I discovered that the Enterprise the dealer uses to give out loaners has been charging my bank account. They're going to get some nasty phone calls in the morning. I am beyond disappointed with this whole experience at this point. I was ok with being patient but charging me and not returning my calls while they have my brand new jeep is just so scummy. We're not sure what we're going to do at this point but I'll be avoiding this dealer after this is settled.

Update: finally got ahold of the dealer this morning. They are refunding the charges for the loaner (confussion on their end apparently on if this was a warranty repair :facepalm:) and they're going to replace the starter this morning after having had the part for 3 days. I asked if this was a guaranteed fix and he said that they found corrosion in the starter where water had somehow gotten in. I have not taken the Jeep off road yet and definitely never forded water.

Hello fromCanada owner of a 2018 JK. Same issues that I am working to clear through now. Couple of things I have learned:
In Jeep circles, this may be the ‘no crank, no start’ scenario referred to in other forums;
There is a Jeep issued Technical Service Bulletin issued, have copy of you connect to my email, I will forward;
It is very difficult for Jeep Cares to properly represent you issue with dealership given they know of this Achilles Heel, lack of a diagnostic code and reproducibility of your problem in the service center;
When it happens, the motor/tranny is often warm, ambient temps are warm and it has something to do with the tranny temp sensors role in the starting sequence;
Having said the above, the Jeep will start after approximately a 30 minute cooling factor.

There is another net forum for Jeeps that has huge info on this ongoing problem. The nature of the problem rattles the owners ‘vehicle reliability’ factor especially when it is a new purchase.

I can be reached direct at. [email protected]

Will try to upload 2 images of the Technical Service Bulletin.

Please stay in touch so we can collectively get our butts clear of the problem, make Jeep aware that it needs to be dealt with....and guide future users.

Cheers, eh !
