I ended up with the Apex 12k, mostly because if I'm stuck with the trailer I'd need a little extra pulling power. Mounted to a Grimm off road winch plate. I think it came out very nice.

I’m using a 12,000 lb winch. I almost always go out by myself, at night usually. I use it often and have no regrets on the purchase.
Aside from getting unstuck I regularly use it to clear my path; moving large fallen trees, huge boulders, etc. I snapped a large log in half across a rock using 3 snatch blocks (and another line tethering the jeep to a tree).

My Jeep has a GVW of around 6k. Then add me, passenger and some gear…what’s best?! 10k winch (at the limit of the 1.5x weight of everything rule of thumb) or the 12k in case there’s a situation that may warrant the extra oomph! Price difference is like $150 between the two. Looking at the Smitty X20 gen2.
