I am wanting to regear. Some recommend 4.56 others say 4.88. Mostly highway driving with a once a month weekend wheelin trip. Would appreciate some feedback. Spoke to Northridge 4x4 and they recommend Dana/Spicer gears.
I have a sx speed JL Rubicon on 35's, just put 5.13 in last week. This is the way it should have come from the factory. It is not a crazy low geared trail only Jeep. If 37's were being considered then 5.38' would be my pick.
Regearing your Jl will be the best money you ever spent.

New to all of this...

Think I'm set on 4.88's now. JLU Sahara, manual with 35's.

Just need the right part numbers. Should have a Dana 30 in the front and Dana 35 AdvanTEK in the rear, correct?

From what I can gather from the Dana aftermarket website:

Rear - 10067231
Front - 10026639

Well, it looks like we have the D44/M220 since we have the anti-spin rear.

Part number - 2018747

Dana 44 AdvanTEK only shows one, 4.10 10048087 - https://www.danaaftermarket.com/sea...K"]}]&y=2018&mk=Jeep&md=Wrangler&ymmType=AUTO

Lots of other D44 options (like where I got the part number above) but that is the only one specifically listed as AdvanTEK.

On the document @gts directed me to, it has Rubicon Dana 44 AdvanTEK 4.10 as 10062033.

So those don't match. And that document doesn't show the D44 for the Sahara. Which I now know our Jeep has. Assumption is, the Rubi one listed will fit.

I’m on a MT with 35’s and considering regearing to 4.88, since it’s somethign I only want to do once I’m now thinking 5.13 will fit better long term since I want to go to 37 eventually. Where do I need to be to be back to stock equivalent?

I am in the same boat, I know I will be going shorter than it was stock on 33's, just don't know how much. My napkin math says around 4.34 would be the equivalent of stock on 35s, and 4.6 for 37.

Knowing what is actually available, it seems to me that the step shorter to 4.56 might not be sufficient even if I planned to stay on 35s long term. I think the choice is 4.88 or 5.13, unless you do a vast majority of driving on flat highways. I am going to think about it for a while, I just put on the 35's and plan on re-gearing as a step towards an eventual 37 change.

4.88s with 37s. Hands down. I'm on a 6-speed JLUR with 37s and in 6th I hit around 2.600 RPMs at 80MPH (on flat NJ highways). I'm betting the auto will be even more favorable. My MPG hovers around 16.5MPG with moderate daily driving. If I'm hard on the skinny pedal, I get more like 14MPG. Again, the auto 8-speed should provide better numbers here.
I have a Sahara with 33's now, thinking of rehearing to 4.10 or 4.56 ( I may consider 34s/35s down the road).

I see you live in NJ, who did your gears (and if you don't mind me asking, how much $$) and any issues with the ESS?

Liquid Iron Industries (Berlin) did the work. The cost was $2,000 since only Dana Spicer have the parts to do it. It includes the 500 mile fluid change too. Globex quoted around the same price, but they are over an hour away from me. They regeared my JK and did a great job.

And yes, I had an issue with ESS UNTIL I installed AND re-calibrated. It appears that 4.88 and 33" tires are not a combination that the JL likes in regards to ESS. Please keep in mind I have a 6-speed and have not heard from anyone with an automatic having the same issue.

wow $2k is a lot steeper than I thought (I'm hoping that it will be less as other companies come out with gears).

as far as the gearing....I also have the 6 speed manual and 3.45 gears with rubi takeoff 33's. do you think 4.10s or 4.56 would be better given how your jeep road stock on 4.10s with 33s and then with 4.88 on 33s?

I found the factory 4.10 gears a little tall, even with 33's. I have the 6 speed as well. If you want to run the 33's, and you're sure you won't go bigger than 35's, 4.56 would probably be ok.

The Dana/Spicer gear sets can be had for $200/axle. I don't think aftermarket will be any cheaper. The problem is with pinion shims, crush bushing, pinion nut, and maybe pinion seal. Dana/Spicer have part numbers for these, but I can only find them in the master rebuild kits, which are about $250/axle and include new bearings and other parts that aren't needed. Add labor of $500 to $700 per axle depending on location and done in car or on the bench, and $2000 for both axles is not that much.

(Maybe I should swap these 35” KM3’s out for a set of 37” STT’s?)
Do it. Love my SST's and the ride isn't that bad (unless you hate the hum).

Im on 37s as well and considering 4.88 vs 5.13, anyone on either and have comments? In my area, i see 6th a lot and only 8th when im going down hill. mainly driving in the 60mph range.

I'm in Florida and debating on these sizes myself. 37's also.

I'm gonna bring this back from the dead... I too have an auto and 37's and I'm also doing the 4.88 or 5.13 dance... I'd hate to do the 4.88's and be underwhelmed with the way it turns the 37's... I'm leaning 5.13... someone change my mind...
