I got rid of a full size truck to get a a JLUR. Couldn't be happier. Just think of all the places you and the family can go in a Jeep.

Personally, I prefer the interior cargo area as opposed to a bed on a pickup for road trips. Especially for a family of 4. Yeah you can put your stuff in the bed of the truck but if you don't have a topper, there's no 110% guarantee it will stay dry. (Although most bed covers these day do a decent job of minimizing water intrusion. The Jeep is more customizable. Insurance was cheaper for me on the Jeep compared to my 2016 Silverado that I bought new. I get better fuel economy in my Jeep loaded for a week of camping than I ever got in my truck with just a suitcase for a weekend trip. I don't know, just a few things that come to mind. But if you're dead set on getting a full size truck, look at the new RAM Rebels. I rented one recently and I was amazed at the offroadyness and comfort all wrapped in one.

This really does sum it up quite nicely. If you're not really going to tow anything it's a no-brainer for me, the Jeep 100%.

honestly i believe your debate is great. Truck or Jeep/SUV. ( ill get crap for that but its mid size family hauler. ive been in trucks my whole life. my old man always aid you cannot do any major projects without a truck to work out of. He was right. we are both very do it your self type of people. when i sold my daily driver P/U and picked up my JLU sport. it was a whole new world. the things i could no longer move or haul with my daily driver truck was hard to get used to. I have zero regrets on switching. if your not hauling anything or not towing to much then i say get the wrangler its a great vehicle and very joyful to drive.. thats my two cents

Thanks Maverick! And the kicker to all this is I can get a more expensive truck for cheaper than a Wrangler. But I think Wrangler it is. I don’t need the full-size.

Resale value is better, with the Wrangler, unless the Ram truck is a 4x4 Diesel. I kept my 2006 Dodge 2500 4x4 Diesel, when I purchased my Jeep. Reasons being, more towing ability, more interior room, and more luggage capacity, if going long distance with family. I have a Lockable, folding Aluminum cover, for the truck. This keeps everything dry, even in hard prolonged rain. A truck is a must, for a homeowner, unless you have friends to beg and borrow from. I don't like borrowing.

As a homeowner, actually a small farm owner, I have a Wrangler. If I have to make a significant purchase of large, long items from Lowe’s, I just hook up my flatbed 5x10 trailer. I can put way more on that trailer than I ever could in the plethora of pickups we’ve owned.

If I don’t need much but I need more room than what is in the back of my Wrangler (e.g. a feed store run), I just put the cargo rack on the back. It fits into the same receiver as my ball hitch.

Just extra food for thought.

RAM 2500 owner here, and getting ready to buy a JLR. The truck is great if you need to haul or tow, and I’ll keep the RAM because I need the utility of a truck. If I am being honest, the RAM is my first choice for long distance road trips because it is very comfortable. But I’d rather be daily driving the Jeep to work.

Pickup vs Wrangler? Need to tow something really heavy or frequently need a truck bed...then a pickup. The Wrangler can tow plus I just rent or borrow a trailer a few times a year when needed. Spouse and children have a minimal temperature tolerance, must live in A/C and cannot have wind blown hair...then a pickup. Else get a Wrangler, mine is topless and doorless today!

Finally, if you want to drive something that will put a smile on your face then get a Wrangler. I've owned many vehicles as an older guy and the only two that I would say are fun to drive have been convertibles.

Taking the wife and kids to the beach today in the JEEP! Safari mode. The kids love it. It was that or the suburban. If not the jeep, then who cares what vehicle we take.

As a homeowner a truck is ideal, or at least a trailer. I have both lol. If i didnt, Gladiator would be very appealing. A wrangler that can carry sheets of plywood! They do look a little odd but with a slight lift and 35s they look really good. Changes the whole look of the truck.

Convertible and can carry plywood home. Whats not to like??

just finished my build out:

I came from a Colorado ZR2 Diesel.
Road manners won't be as good as the RAM, it's a JEEP.
I've never owned a vehicle that makes me smile more though...
