With my 2013 3.6 JKU auto I did my oil every 10,000 miles with full synthetic. 175,000 miles mixed driving without a hiccup and the engine showed no signs of “varnish” or “sludge”. Passed its last smog check with flying colors, never burned oil and gas mileage stayed constant throughout its life.

I plan on staying with 10,000 mile oil changes on my 2020 3.6 JLUR auto. After all its 3.? cousin used by Mercedes recommendation is for oil changes every 15,000. Many forget or don’t know Diamler-Benz (Mercedes) owned Jeep when the 3.6 engine was developed. It was intended as a world engine to be used throughout the Diamler-Benz many product lines not just Jeep and Dodge.

Funny how the “high line” European manufacturers recommend 10-15,000 mile oil changes on their engine, but U.S. auto makers recommend far less.
The 3.6L Pentastar is not related to the MB V6 engines. MB did own Chrysler at the time but they white-sheeted their V6 design.

I buy any of the filters mentioned. Either OEM or aftermarket. Seek the best price and buy whatever you can get cheaper. Do buy full synthetic motor oil, as mentioned in my last post here..

I have JK's in the family and the JL. SO, I use 5w-20 Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic in all of them year round. I have residences in Calif., NY and Florida so vehicles see snow, heat and lots and lots of driving. JK's use the same filter as the JL.
Jks with the 3.8 use a different filter than the 3.6. So I would conclude that the filter is specific to the engine not model.

@JEEPIDON

The 2018, 2019 and 2020 Wrangler JL or JT with the 3.6 engine, uses exactly the same oil filter and oil filler cap as all 2011-2018 JK's with the 3.6 engine.

2011's had the 3.8

I know, I HATED mine.
2007-2011 had 3.8. Some 2011 Wranglers did come with 3.6 toward end of model year..
I did say " all 2011-2018 JK's with the 3.6 engine. "

In my earlier post I said JK's in my family. I did not specify model year of the JK's. I have 2014 JK's in the family.

Could have been misleading.

@JEEPIDON

We are in a thread discussing/talking about the 3.6 engine. I repeatedly stated JL and JK with the 3.6 engine. I said 3.6 engine in every post I believe. No where was 3.8 brought up. I said the oil cap and filter are the same for all 3.6's from 2011 until 2020. I don't know how I could have been any clearer.

Guess I could have posted a tidbit about, back in the day, the 3.8 used a different filter and such but .... but again, this is a thread in regard to the 3.6 in a JLU.

Oh well.....

Especially if you add a Futmoto valve to the equation. I don't even have to crawl under, just push the pan under and flick the Fumoto valve open.
One of the best things about working on Jeeps is that they are usually easy to crawl under. Even our WJ I could get under it pretty easily without jacking it up. With some of the lifts and bigger tires I've seen the car might be too high for some people to reach what they are trying to work on.

It was until you referenced "JK's" which happens to be all inclusive. You would be the first to point out if anyone had said that other than you. You should reference engines, not models.

Geeeez, I should never have said " I have JK's in the family and the JL. SO, I use 5w-20 Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic in all of them year round "

All I was trying to get across is that I, use 5w-20 Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic in all of them year round.

Would not matter what model year Wrangler or whether it was 3.6 or 3.8, etc., as I'd be using 5w-20 Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic in them..

This way, I only have to keep the same oil in the shop for all to be serviced with.. 5w20 does the deed for all of them..

Quietest oil burner I ever had!
I don't hate my 3.8. It has been 100% reliable for 142k miles and runs like new. It just has an oil drinking problem and performance wise, is underwhelming. Still, it gets my respect, which increases as the miles go up. We'll see how long it goes. Not a glamorous engine, by any measure.
