Cost me very little to do the oil change this morning > $3.98 for the on sale last year, Mobil 1 M1C-456A Extended Performance Cartridge Oil Filter and then a 5 qt. container of Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic Oil at a cost of $12.00 after rebate. 15 min. labor.

Total cost of oil & filter change = $ 15.98. (not a typo.. cost was $15.98)

and ...................No friggin nitwit oil change guy/gal, at the dealer touching my JL, overfilling with oil, me sitting there of an hour, no drive to and from the dealer..

Guy/gals can also get the oil and filter at very low prices and do their own oil changes. As you said @cb4017, " It's easy to change and not that expensive." It amazes me that a Jeep owner can't take it upon themselves to do an oil change at home versus having a dealer do it.

I'm guessing Amazon and Wally world for the oil and then a mail in rebate. Even at normal prices at Wally World you can get the oil for $25ish and the Mopar filter for $9, still a great deal for an oil change.

Most always buy at Amazon.com, occasionally Walmart. Then I submit the rebate form which is usually, $10.00 off 5 quarts.

Today at Amazon, 5 qts $19.77..

Last rebate I did a few months ago was buy 5 qt container of Penzoil and get a $22.00 rebate. YES, friggin $22.00 rebate from manufacturer. I bought 2 5 qt. containers and got $22.00 x 2 using my name and gal pals name.

Anyway, look around, discounts are out there. Buy when rebates are avail. and then put oil on shlef in garage... it does not go bad.. I have 3, 5qt. containers out there now... Got Mobil 1 oil filters for less then $4.00. I bought a bunch of those.

Yep; not long ago the rebate in combination with a sale/discount price had Shell and Mobil paying you to use their oil. Several guys over on BITOG had a profit of a few dollars after the rebate was processed.

I think Shell wised up though... Now, when you go to use a Pennzoi rebate, you can no longer use the rebate if you bought from Amazon or Walmart. Shell has a list of vendors to buy from to get the rebate and..... Amazon and Walmart are not on them.

Yes, I bought 2, 5 qt containers at Amazon for a tad over $19.00 each which included sales tax. I got two, $22.00 rebates from Shell for that Pennzoil. So, I made a profit of about $3.00 per 5 qt. container...

I was basically paid $10 for the jug of Rotella Gas Truck that is in my JL right now. $10 on clearance, $10 rebate, and $10 Autozone rewards. That's enough to get me to pause the Mobil 1 for an OCI!

This is good info. In this case the link to the oil shows that it is sold by and shipped from Amazon. That’s good. With stories of counterfeit spark plugs being sold online, I generally try to avoid ‘generic sellers” on amazon and anywhere else Online. If Amazon itself is selling it (or the manufacturer) I believe that it can be trusted.... if someone named Bob and Jim’s Auto Parts is selling it, I pass.

Businesses that sell motor oil are required by State Law to also take in, used motor oil, brought in , in a proper container.

I don't know how common it is but I've been to local stores where they refused to take oil because "their tank is full".

My dad's shop has a heater that burns waste oil so that saves them money in the winter. I usually save my oil and take it whenever I go to visit.

If they've a 0W-xx oil in the engine, it is very likely synthetic.

"In order to make a 0W motor oil, synthetic base stock is typically required to meet industry and OEM specifications and therefore is available only as a synthetic motor oil."

Synthetic, most likely. There is a small chance of a blend syn, but the only blend I've seen is Pennzoil Gold and I don't think they make it anymore. All major brands of 0w20 are full synthetics.

Pennzoil Gold had great stats, so I wouldn't have any trepidation about running it.

Definitely fully synthetic. They don't make regular 0w oil, and they need special oil at the factory to help with all the assembly grease and such a new engine has
