I'm having a builder lift + 42's on my 2021 JLR. I'll be moving the JLR from the mainland to Maui and back each year. It's $2,000 more to ship each direction if it's over 6'3" high. I'll probably have to keep my 42's/beadlocks in Seattle and ship it with the factory tires/wheels and get another set of 42's in Maui. At least I'll only need 4 or the second set as you can carry the spare. Or can I at mount a 21" or on a 17x9 beadlock for transportation? That would save buying 4 more beadlocks but I'm not crazy about paying to swap tires twice a year.

$4,000 additional shipping per year is $20K in the next 5 years, so and extra 4 wheels/tires is cheap option.

EDIT: Solution

  1. Youtube: ORI zero lift to 14", with 5" the sweet spot. Built in bump stops. Thanks @Glamisfan
  2. AccuTune JL Coilover Kit Lift height is adjustable between 2″ & 4″ in front with a level stance. If I could change that between 0 & 2, might work. thanks @Hucke_250
  3. a set of chopped stock springs - the factory originals, the budget option. Thanks @GearWhore

True 37s will add roughly 2-2.5in height over stock rubi tires + whatever your lift height is. There's a ton of posts on heights for various combinations of lifts and tires. Considering a JLR sits at 6ft stock, may have to try and stuff those 37s into the jeep or have them shipped to maui

Ship mounted on 4 stock tires. 37 as the spare. Stuff 4 37s inside

@rts4714 Thanks, that's exactly what I needed to know. I'll get the minimum lift installed.

Shipper's don't allow anything in the rig, other that what comes from the factory. I'll get 4 new sets on Maui. I'll get the minimum lift. A mile from the port I'll install 4 Coil Spring Compressor's, I sure the inspection guys won't notice them.

I can also sell 4 of the factory KO's and replace them with four 235/55R17 tires - which are 27.2"x9.6" and accept a 6.5-5.5" wheel. For example, this Toyo.

For $20,000 or the next 5 years, I would buy a Jeep and leave it in Maui. The $20,000 that you spend shipping your Jeep back and forth will be gone. Spend that $20,000 on a 2nd Jeep. Then you can always sell one of the Jeeps and recoup some of the money that is spent.

This seems most logical to me. But I suppose OP might have to pay storage or something when leaving jeep?

I have a stock 2021 JLUR with soft top and it's 75 inches at highest point. I was extremely frustrated after purchase because the extra 3 inches means I can't park in my garage. I don't know where the stock 72 inches comes from but it's wrong.

I think it varies based on the packages you get. The soft top actually sits a little higher than the hardtop due to the cross members on the frame. Also, your garage is really short.

My 2021 JLR with the hard top, Mopar lift, and 37" Nitto Ridge Grapplers is 6'5" tall. I measured the Nittos to be 36" mounted, so a true 37" tire will be even taller.

Depending on how much the lift gives you, you'll probably need 31" tires to ensure you come in under 6'3"

I'd love to use the factory 31"'s

You could always air down to 3psi....
Ha, 3 PSI on Toyo Open Country M/T 37X14.60R17 has a 5.1" drop. See my https://bt39.com/ All kidding aside I could probably get away with 18 psi, but that's 1/8" drop. 12 psi is pushing it to get 1/4".

It's a JLR hardtop. So a set of 27.2"x9.6" would help. What about Coil Spring Compressor's - is that crazy?

That is a really bad idea. It could go wrong so many different ways....

There's a couple good Jeep lift shops here. Perhaps I could have northridge4x4 remove the lift AND keep the 37's on for transport. I could have a shop here reinstall. Might be cheaper than and extra 4 beadlocks/tires.

Are bead lock wheels even necessary in Maui?

I only know a few folks with them.
On the sand, rock crawling, rocky beach. I've been stuck many times in my Sahara in each place. Half the air pressure, double the footprint. 36 -> 18 -> 9 and possibly 5

Keep in mind I'll be bringing this to the mainland each summer for the next few years until I do another build.

That's for shipping over 75" which is 3x the cost of 75" shipping. I'll ship at 75" and it's only $3K/year both directions. I have a home in both locations so no storage, but not interested in an old used Rubicon.
