Happy New Year All!

So, I've searched this up and down, but haven't found what I'm looking for. So I'm reaching out to all you smart folks for thoughts/answers/advice.

I've found people with stock JL Willys, running 285/70/17s, and they report some light rubbing at full lock. Is that the only issue that is known?

Nothing mechanical? Nothing at full articulation? Truth be told, full articulation is really not an issue for me since I'm mostly on beaches or trails. No rock crawling here. Just want to make sure I'm not setting myself up for trouble going from the stock 255/75 to a 285/70 on the stock Willys 17" wheels.

Prefer not to use spacers, and not planning a lift.

Thanks!

Not an issue. Your tires are 32.1” tall. 285/70s are 32.6” tall. I put some Rubicon take offs on my sisters JLU Sport a few weeks ago. All she does is take it to the beech. Zero issues, speedometer still reads correct with such a small difference in height.

Keep in mind, hers is a 4 door Sport with base shocks. You have a 2 door with Rubicon shocks. Willys and Rubicon have the same wheels, just the finish is different.

Amazing. This is exactly what I needed/wanted to hear. Thanks so much!

I'm going to do the same thing, but in a 4dr. I have a buddy with a 2020 Rubicon who is getting new rims and tires. He has 3500 miles on his 285/70/17 KO2's. Said he would just give them to me. I like the stock Willys wheels so I'll have them mount the KO2's to my stock wheels. I just need to have them install the TPMS from my tires as my Willys is an 11/21 build. If he doesn't want to hold on to his stock Rubi rims, I'll sell those as well as my Firestone Destination MT/2's. I only have 700 miles on them

Looks awesome. Those rims look great with the Sting Grey. What rims are they? And did you have them update the computer with the new tire size?
The rims and tires came from a 392 Rubicon; I purchased them in TX as a set of take-offs, complete with TPMS sensors. I did not have the computer updated, as the difference in error [I perceive] is minimal, plus...I’ll periodically swap back and forth to my OE LT255/75R17 Destination M/T’s on stock wheels.

Did you notice a ride improvement over 255 MT’s? I’m considering getting the 285 AT‘s for my Willys.
Definitely a ride improvement. No doubt. Quieter and smoother ride. One thing that has happened is I am now getting the below in messages on the dash. Doesn’t make sense because the backup sensors still work the way they are supposed to. Has to be related to the spare tire and the way it is sitting on the tire carrier and the camera. I do see the bottom of the inside of the spare tire on the bottom of the screen when I put it in reverse. I don’t recall seeing that when the 255/75/17’s were on it. Unrelated to this issue, but I am going to bring it to the dealer today and have them update the computer with the new tire size

I just got a ‘21 Willy’s and wanted to do this same thing. How’d it work out? Pics? What’s the date and TPMS thing about?

It worked out great. The KO2's to me are so much better than the Destination MT2's that came with the Willys. They feel more connected to the road. As far as the TPMS sensors go, you need to know what month of 2021 your Wrangler was built. The TPMS sensors used post June 2021 builds are different and are not interchangeable with pre June 2021 builds. I just had them keep the TPMS sensors that came with my wheels when they mounted the KO2's.... Here are some pics with the KO2's
