Is the JL an auto? I’d expect the 8 speed to be longer than the old 5 speed.

looks like the front jl shaft is longer than the jk and the rear jl shaft is shorter than the jk.

is the t case different from the jl and jk, because the jl looks bigger.

Two transfer cases are carry overs from JK to JL

For what it's worth I think that's where the E-torque battery is when the 2.0T is equipped.

I thought about trying to fit a 10gal water tank in that area for overlanding. It would need a pump and heat shielding for the exhaust, but it seems like a lot of wasted space.
