Anyone have an issue with their Tailgate Retainer. My tailgate wouldn’t shut the other day, and the only way to get it closed was to unbolt that piece from the tailgate. Is this a common issue? Is there any diagram on how to replace this piece?

hi! What was your fix?

The same thing just happened to mine, while camping after a full day of trail riding, used it multiple times throughout the day then poof….I couldn’t close it until we removed the whole retainer assembly.

I’m assuming I need to buy a replacement, or try the dealership for warranty work, but I’m curious if my heavier 37” tire and tailgate carrier will make them say it’s my fault.

I ordered the replacement part and it was back ordered 6 weeks. So I pulled the passenger tail light, to look at what was going on. When I did I noticed that the tub of the Jeep is wide open to the elements and it had got some mud up in there from a water crossing I did a week earlier. So I cleaned out the excess dirt and mud, then I got a small pry bar to work the rollers up and down and sprayed them down with some silicone spray. I’ve not had any issues with it since.

good luck with yours.
