Have a 2018 JL Sport. My CarPlay works well when it’s connected (it sounds good as well); but it frequently kicks out of CarPlay even when the phone is connected via USB. Or the system gets stuck trying to connect to CarPlay (it’s equivalent of the spinning donut for a desktop). The frustrating thing is that I don’t know when it kicks me out of CarPlay (I’m on the radio screen when I’m driving), and I miss all the incoming calls and texts. Also, I can’t make calls using Bluetooth, since Bluetooth is not available when USB is in use. Is this a known glitch, or am I the only one with this problem? Any feedbacks are much appropriated.

Take it to the dealership. They probably won't be able to do much though. I've experienced a number of issues with my radio...see this thread: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/weird-uconnect-radio-issues-fix.18549/

Get a better cable. It has to be a high speed cable. I had the same problem on my wifes sport and all I did was change the cable and it was perfect

If you end up going into the dealer, let us know. We're available via direct message and can escalate for further assistance.

I will schedule a service appointment with a dealership. Have a list of things I need to sort out (i.e. sometimes, albeit not often, when stopped at a signal, and the ESS kicks in, the engine stalls). By the way I’m using the original Apple cable.

Here’s another one for the cable. Only Apple cables work on mine. The bobo cables keep disconnecting which causes CarPlay to freak out.

I will say I’ve personally noticed the JL CarPlay implementation is loads better than my 2017 VW Sportwagen and we haven’t had nearly as many problems.

Hmm... try a new original Apple cable. Not only is Carplay picky with what cables it likes, but the Apple ones themselves are crazy fragile. I’m always having to replace them. When they work, they work great but they usually don’t last that long.

Also...you said
“(i.e. sometimes, albeit not often, when stopped at a signal, and the ESS kicks in, the engine stalls).”
Not sure what you meant by this, but it sounds to me like ESS is functioning as intended; i.e. making the engine stall.

I use the Anker Powerline+ II Lightning cable for carplay. Never have any connection issues and cable is strong industrial strength.

I had a lot of issues with 2018 too. Then i applied a TSB and they all went away.

Let me see if i can find the number.

Edit: TSB 08-012-18 REV. D

Ask them to download it before your appointment. It takes forever.
