I think what that guy fails to understand is that people, when buying a JL, are not necessarily making the safety rating their main consideration.......
For me, there are many more interesting aspects with JL ownership than safety!
How did we ever survive before European crash ratings, government regulations and nerf cars?
I didn't choose the Wrangler because of the crash ratings (I had a Subaru Crosstrek), I chose it because of what it is and how i sits my needs.
I rode a motorcycle for many years and hundreds of thousands of miles, they don't crash well either so i just activity engaged my brain to avoid crashing.
I’ll preface my thoughts by stating that I’m a transportation safety specialist by trade. I think that fans of the Wrangler sometimes create false equivalencies to insulate it from criticism (legitimate or not) in their own minds because they like it. Like the whole “just pay attention to your driving” and “motorcycles are far more dangerous” and “people aren’t buying them for safety” arguments. None of those makes the vehicle any safer. However, the way the final rating of these particular crash test ratings are determined, by giving it the rating of the category it scores lowest in, is asinine too. Complete garbage and very misleading to the vast majority of potential buyers. A tractor/trailer may have horrible pedestrian safety and poor active crash mitigation features but unless you roll it over you are extremely well protected in a crash. You’re walking away without a scratch.
I personally feel pretty safe for a few simple reasons. The data I’ve seen from JL crashes reported looks pretty good as far as protection for the the occupants. I don’t have kids and only once in a blue moon would young child ever be in my vehicle, so I’m not concerned about child safety. I haven’t seen or read about a lot of side impact crashes, but with the rock sliders I’ve got and the tall tires and 2” lift very few vehicles on the road concern me because the bulk of the impact forces will be below the passenger compartment. Rollover structural integrity is excellent.
And this guy is the worst. I actually wanted to hear what he had to say but could I only get half way through the video. And I tried really hard.
That guy strikes me as the Aussie version of Scotty Kilmer. I think Scotty Kilmer is an idiot and too many people put too much credence in what he has to say on anything.
