Hi All,

Wanted to get some thoughts on my situation. I ordered a 392 XR through Chapman in January 2022, and it looks like it will be delivered sometime in the next month. I currently have a 2021 JLU Rubicon 6 spd with just under 25k miles. Current jeep has been a blast to drive and has no issues.

I mostly placed the 392 order with Chapman for fun, and knew there was a chance it wouldn't get built, but here we are! My order with them is 10% off MSRP. What are everyone's thoughts on going from a 3.6 6 speed to the 392? I do have a lien on my current Jeep, payoff is around 40k. I checked Carvana and Vroom and the offers were between 40-45k, which seems low for my spec (59k build, Sarge Green, SOT, etc). Would I be better off going to some local Jeep dealers and seeing what they would offer to buy my jeep? Chapman said they didn't have interest in taking a trade with the 10% off since it would probably be a lowball.

Money isn't necessarily a constraint here, but im not sure if the jump from 3.6 to 392 is worth it. I don't want to just blow money. Obviously I'd be more interested if I got a good offer on my current jeep. I do have a Porsche GT4 on order coming in late October, so im not sure if I should just stick with my current jeep and let the porsche serve as a the fast car in the stable.

I'd love to hear thoughts from everyone, especially those that came into a 392 from a 3.6 Wrangler. Assuming you recommend making the switch, tips on maximizing the value on my current jeep would also be appreciated! Thanks for the help!

I don't have a 392, but if you want the most money for your old ride you usually get the most in a private sale. The only reason to use a 3rd party is to avoid the nonsense and possible wait of selling a vehicle yourself.

good call, I'll check KBB values and consider selling privately

I just pulled the trigger this am on 392 XRā€¦and yes I had a rubicon 6MT before. I had my 3.6 rubicon since 2018. I loved it, but I was pretty tired of the 3.6. It ran well, never had an issue. But it was inefficient and not a lot of power.

I decided to roll with the 392 as it had the awesomeness of the rubicon with a kick ass motor.

my 2 centsā€¦

I did much the same. Had a loaded, ā€˜19 JLUR with the 6 cyl/auto. Jumped to a ā€˜22 392XR. Couldnā€™t be happier. Simply a better Wrangler in every single respect. Wellā€¦except for a slight degradation in fuel economy, but the glorious exhaust note makes it worth it!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure the 392 is an absolute blast. I really do love my current rubicon and having the ability to row my own gears, but it does feel a bit lacking in power. I may post my current rubicon for sale here and see what kind of response I get.

Any recommendations on a sale price for my current JLU? Build sheet attached. 24,200 miles, no accidents, good condition. Only mods are shorty antenna, 20% tint all around except windshield, and added PPF to rear fenders.

I traded a 2021 JLUR for a 2022 392. As far as the Jeep is concerned, it is definitely worth changing to a 392. This is the most fun to drive Jeep I have ever owned, in 48 years of Jeep ownership. As for the price you are being quoted for your 2021, I think you can do better. You have a ton of miles on your 2021 JLUR (25K), but the price is still low, especially if you paid $59K for it. My 2021 JLUR was a very stripped-down model, and only had two options on it, a hard top and an automatic transmission. MSRP was $43K when I bought it new, and they gave me $48K for trade in. It only had 7K miles on it though.

When I got my 392 with them almost a year ago. I got a lot for my trade (right in line with KBB). Also had the same disclaimer where it "might not get pulled through production" which is why I went for no money down for an order nothing to lose here. I went from a JLU Sahara lifted on 35's to this beast and I haven't looked back since.

Went from a 2020 JLU Rubicon with the 3.6 to a 392. It was my first Jeep and I loved it but I was able to sell it for more than I paid for it so the upgrade made sense to me. The 392 is an absolute blast.

I got 10% off MSRP on my current wrangler, which was a good deal. If I could sell it for more than I paid for it (or even within a couple thousand), I'd be much more inclined to go for the 392!

Keep it for a few weeks and then decide which you prefer. Unlikely you will take a bath on the 392.

Without question, worth it. From 2021 JLUR 3.6 to 2022 JLUR 392 XR.
