If it were available now, would you order a JL Retractable Sunshade?

It’s almost the 4th of July. Time for a sun rider top with retractable sunshade Independence Day super combo sale. Pretty please @BestopTeam

Been asking for this since last fall, as I wanted to use my LiteBrite discount on it. I was even willing to try and MacGyver a JK version to fit my JL, but I’ve been trying since March to get Bestop to provide me simple measurements on the JK version to see if I might be able to adapt it. No dice after multiple emails so I’ve since given up.

At this point in time, I am very pleased with my Sunrider for hardtop/Alien shade combo. It simply works to a fault.

Good Thing it's a 10 year production Run....

I just ordered a Jtops Bikini for Freedom Tops. I got tired of waiting on the Bestop retractable. Would still consider buying a Bestop retractable though if they ever decide to make and release one, especially if they offer "colors". Bestop makes great stuff. I thought they were serious about it when they took a poll. Guess not?

are you able to open/close the sunrider from the inside or would you have to reach from the outside?

I simply reach out the driver's side window with my left hand and pull the sunrider forward to close.

Most of the time, when I arrive at my destination, I simply draw it closed from the outside. I don't bother with the latches. I draw it closed to keep the hot sun out when I'm gone.

I would very much make use of this along with multiple others in my club. Ive noticed a lot of our members run various brands of sun shades with myself included.

Under a few conditions i would be all for it.

1. The option to leave it on with the soft top and/or hard top over it. This way its multi functional if i have the freedom tops off in the early spring or the soft top in the middle of summer.

2. Its as tight as some of the other sunshade options. Like bounce a quarter off it.

3. It comes in various colors (not a personal deal breaker but an added bonus.)

4. NO drilling holes to mount it.

5. The mesh design isn't too close as to make it not feel "open air"

6. Reasonably priced.

My .02

This is the main reason I'm interested in the Sunrider. Right now we just drive around with the Freedom panels off, and put towels on the seats when we get out. And in for all those who are thinking it, yes cloth seats are slightly better in that regard, but I had a convertible with cloth seats years ago, and they get uncomfortably hot too. I used a towel then as well. More importantly though, you've got other things like the steering wheel, center console, etc that gets hot when parked. A Sunrider would cover them while we're away, and cloth seats and towels don't help those.

On a side note. Does anyone have a pictures or videos of how the top looks while driving with it open? I've searched and all I can find are videos from the inside where people are trying to document wind noise with it close while driving. I want to know when it's folded back at 45 mph does it looks like a giant sail, or if it stays pretty well tucked. The reason I ask is because I saw a soft top with the front open and it looked like a big balloon on their roof. Not a fan of that, plus that's got to be hell on your fuel economy. Does the Sunrider behave better a road speeds? I'm not really concerned about freeway speed, since I'm rarely ever on them. Besides, it wouldn't be open then anyway.

We have a Sunrider for hardtop (or freedom panels), had one on the JK too.
To answer your question about it flapping or parachuting, there is none of either.
70mph no issues.
Sunrider comes with some velcro straps for holding it down. Never used them...
But just like our convertible it is windy, but isn't that the idea...
I can share pictures of it open but not while rolling.
Had a Spider shade for the JK. Did a bunch of research then I just ordered a Jtops for the JL. This is to cut down on some of the sun and wind.
Would like to have a retractable, but this will do until someone brings one to market.
Hope this helps.
