Hello,

New to the forum. Just picked up a 2018 JL Rubicon "Ruby" that we custom ordered just 6 weeks ago.
I'm not to savvy with forums and searching for threads, but has anyone else had issues with the 5" radio and HVAC system on their JL's

Its not our daily driver, its a weekend beach buggy, and roam around town vehicle so I haven't blown my lid yet at the dealership.
It started the 3rd day we had it, we left for Boston early am, and had the AC on. But every 5-10 minutes the heat would automatically turn on and it would be on high. We had to shut the system down and restart it to get the AC to then work again. It did this the entire ride up to Boston, which is about a 1.5hr ride with some traffic. I figured it was us, or some setting we haven't figured out yet. The ride home it didn't do it .

2 days later, the radio starts acting up, changing channels, volume changes, XM, FM, AM changes by itself. Literally sitting idling at a stop light, not touching a thing. Also couldn't shut the radio off.

So bring it to the dealership last Friday. "Sorry sir we cant recreate the problem, we rebooted the computer, it should be all set. These JL's are so new, NOONE else has had this same issue"
I'm saying to myself, NFW it will be all set, I'll be dealing with this for a long time or at least my 3 annoying visits to get it Lemon Lawed. But I don't want to go that route, we ordered exactly what we wanted, and don't want to wait another 6-8 weeks for a new one. By Sunday the same issues with the Radio, the HVAC was fine.

So I did a quick google search, and saw on some other forums, that others are having issues with their 5" radio's.

Anyone else hear have these issues, if so what was the fix.

Hi Big Duke 6,
We're sorry to see that you're having these experiences with your brand new JL Rubicon. As you are aware, the dealership cannot address your concerns if they can't be duplicated. If you choose to bring you Jeep back to your dealer, please let us know via private message and we'd be happy to get a case started for you. This way, a case specialist can work with your dealer to help work towards possible solutions.
Lydia,
Jeep Social Care Specialist

Make sure you push in all of the fuses in the fuse box by the batteries. Everyone who has checked has found numerous loose or not fully seated fuses and relays. Couldn't hurt...

Update on our JL.

Its now been in 3 times with the same issue.

The dealership puts on about 200-400 miles per visit, while they drive it around aimlessly waiting for the problem to recreate, even though it happens daily with us. Not to mention, 2 out of 3 times they've left us with an empty fuel tank. So far the best part was, the loaner vehicle needed to be jump started while the wife was getting groceries yesterday, then again this morning to return that Jeep back to the dealership.

I love the excuse that the dealership is trying to recreate the problem but they cant...…………………………...but what if they could, THEN WHAT ?!?!?!!? LMAO...……………………….
We have sent over 10 video's of the same issue, Shouldn't that be enough ? What a waste of time this is turning out to be.
The vehicle only has 1,800 miles on it, more then half of those miles are from them. About to make our second payment as well.

No game plan from the dealership, other then lets do this every week for the next 34,000miles, while we pay for the Jeep and the fuel for them to use.

How about you driving a service manager around and show him or take video of the problem and show them.

And 200-400 miles is absolutely insane. Speak to the manager and have them give you some gas cards or something.

We have taken 10-12 video's and shared them with the service manager, salesman, owner and GM, supposedly that doesn't help them. SO then they take the vehicle for about a week, and the problem wont recreate.

5 months and counting, still news to my dealership...……………………..Central Jeep in Raynham Mass.
The Radio has gotten a little better, but that's because we don't dare to plug our phones into the vehicle, not even to charge them. Which is ridiculous, a brand new $50,000 Jeep, and you cant even charge your phone, or the radio will act up again.

The HVAC is still a mess. The difference between 68 degree and 72 degrees, in reality is like having your AC on as cold as you can get it when you have it on 68 degrees, and then you turn it up to 72, you melt, 72 is the basically your highest heat setting.

But according to Jeep it is not a safety problem, you know driving in Boston traffic with a 6 speed manual and Fuhking around with the AC and radio all the time is safe.....just saying.

have they reflashed the radio at all? Take a look at this TSB. I can send you the entire tsb if you would like.
GRUMEAZY, Thank you !! I'm amazed that my dealership is playing dumb with all this.
Do you happen to have anything official in regards to the hvac issues I'm having as well.

ridiculous, they get paid to re-flash it under warranty. thankfully the company i work for has an All Data subscription so i can look at this stuff. I dont see anything related to your issue in the HVAC in the TSB's.
There is one to re flash the HVAC control module but it lists the symptoms as rear defrost inop and cabin temp does not stay warm. TSB 08-042-18

You could ask them to re-flash it any ways.
