Admin Update: October 10

In FCA's latest filing to the NHTSA, the power output figure for the JL Wrangler's 2.0L Turbo I4 is now listed as "Not Rated." Whether this means the 368 HP figure is incorrect is not yet known, but we will keep an eye on further submissions.

Admin Edit:

From documents submitted from FCA to NHTSA.
Source: https://vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov/mid/home/displayfile/39499 (also via The Truth About Cars)

This is a 2018 Model Year FCA US MPV/Truck VIN Decoder Document that FCA submitted to the NHTSA showing initial release for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler (and other vehicles).

Two engine initial launch:
  • 3.6L V6 - 285 horsepower
  • 2.0L Turbo I4 - 368 horsepower
As we’ve reported, and this document now supports, the updated Pentastar 3.6L V6 will be the base engine and we now know horsepower will remain unchanged at 285 horsepower.

The document also shows the new Wrangler will be launched initially only with the 4-door JLU offering, although our JL production timeline indicates the 2-door will arrive shortly after (around Feb 2018).

I'd like to see the torque number on that 2.0. I've wished I could have the 3.5 Ecoboost from my Ford Transit in my JK. It has 300hp and 400lb of torque, and moves the big 15 passenger van with authority, while getting good fuel economy. This 2.0 sounds even meaner. Man, I wish they'd offer the 6 speed with it, if it really puts up that kind of hp. I'd expect torque to be better than 300lbs, and maybe even push 400. That would be a BEAST and would make me reconsider my current favorite V6/manual.

I'm actually really excited about the 2.0 if this is legit. The torque will be in the low-mid 300 range, I'm thinking anyways.

Also, thanks to (I'm assuming) Administrator for adding info to my post.

Wow that's incredible. I was expecting the 2.0 to be potentially less than the 3.6. Game changer for sure.

No doubt it would be a beast. I'm sure the engineers will make low end torque a priority as well.

???? Seriously? Man, people will be lowering their Wranglers, bolting on body kits and adding spoilers with that kind of hp lol. (Just kidding, just kidding...)
Have to rethink my priorities now...

For some scale: 68 more horespower than base Porshe Boxster 718 engine. 18 more horsepower than the most powerful 718 engine. It will be only 7 horsepower behind the most powerful 4 cylinder engine in a production car (Mercedes-AMG GLA 45).

Don't forget the improved power/weight ratio as I assume this will be much lighter than the V6.

No way. That thing must be running 30 psi out of 2 liters.
