Looks good. Too bad it doesn't lock.

Reality is..... If the JL/JLU will be in a part of the country that gets snow / below freezing temperatures, the last thing you'd want to have is a fuel door that has an exposed key slot on it. The exposed, external key slot would undoubtedly be prone to getting water/snow on/in it and freezing up.

Another JL owner on this forum installed the Stant 10508 Locking Fuel Cap with 2 keys on his JLU. He has had no issues running with this locking gas cap.

One place this gas cap can be can be purchased is at Amazon for $10.73 https://www.amazon.com/Stant-10508-...pID=41K6PcPGVCL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

As in this case, it is not unusual for Amazon's fit filter to say an item won't work with a specific vehicle when indeed it will. This cap is in use with the JLU/JL and no codes are being thrown.

In regard to the JLU/JL, fuel door install:

Important note: There is a little, FRAGILE locking tab on the access cover that you will be removing.
Look closely at the access door before you remove it....
You will notice a small slot on the bottom edge of the access cover. Do carefully, insert your pry tool there and gently, pry upward to remove the access cover. Do not pry at the top of the access cover or you will break the small, fragile locking tab.

When you go to place the access cover back on, remember the Fragile, locking tab and it needs to go at the top of the access hole. DO get the access cover into the proper position before you press firmly down on the access panel.

Also, if I were to do the install, I would use a plastic pry tool and not a metal screwdriver as shown in the video and pic below. Why risk scratching, marking up the access door. So, use a plastic pry tool and if you want to ace your bet so to speak, place painter's tape on the access cover / where the pry tool will come in contact with.

I guess this explains why it feels so flimsy when I fill up. Not even a single freakin screw holding it in there?!

Does the door have a hook on it to hang the cap from so it doesn't contact the paint while dangling there like it does now ? This fuel door would be worth the price just for that...

Well, no way with the tether that is on there that you can hang over the door as you mention.

You could pretty easily alter / change the tether so you could do this.

Also, you could perhaps come up with a hook of sorts you could install in the cavity where the cap resides.

Another option... you could remove the tether altogether.. not recommending this but it is an alternative.

I guess the tether is short. Altering it is a good option. I'm assuming I could add a hook to the door. Either are a better alternative I think.

Definitely not removing the tether all together. I would lose a ton of gas caps. My wife's car doesn't have a gas cap and it's the greatest thing ever.

Just came up with a small, black plastic, stick on, sturdy, hook to hold the gas cap when it is removed. It looks aok.
Will let you know after a couple of stops at the gas station if it does the job aok..
