I have 265/70/17 at3w on my sport s. If you are not planning on a lift I would go with that setup. Anything higher then 33 or higher look crammed in a JL sport in my opinion. Plus mpg hit and 8 gear struggles and not to mention your speedo will be off 3mph. Some people are fine with what I just said so it's up to you. But 265 and 285 don't seem much of a difference. The biggest difference for me was the price on tires I spent around $600ish on five tires if I went up a size it would costed me $350 more. At that point I rather just buy used OEM Rubicon tires and wheels.

I ended up with the 285/70/17s BFG KO2s C Load Rating.
MPG is actually the same.
Performance seems the same.
It is only a 3% difference in tire height, a little more than 1 inch taller, so not much of a difference.
The -6mm offset of the Fuel 17x8.5 rimsmakes it seem bigger than it is, has an aggressive stance.
No rubbing.

Good to know I guess the 8speed is helping out.

Sahara suspension is in the middle of Sport and Rubicon, but still should be close enough.
nope they are the same even the same fenders only Saharas are color matched Rubicons get s 1.5 inch lift and 2 more inches from high clearance fenders. that is why a Sport/ Sahara can take 33s with no lift and Rubicons can do a 35s.

Sorry, I was talking about settings not height and I might be wrong, but I thought the springs/shock settings were a bit firmer on the Sahara, height of fenders is the same

It might have been that way on the JK? Not sure?

Thanks for the info, I don't want to be putting wrong info out there.

I know you have a JL, I had a 2018 JL, but was also looking at JKs as well as have had a few JKs.

My son had a JK Sport, a JK Sahara and a JK Rubicon Hard Rock. I do believe the JK Sahara suspension was somewhere in the middle of the Sport and Rubicon.

I could research it, but it doesn't really matter to me at the moment.

If you want tall, but skinny is ok with you, the Falken Wildpeak AT3W is available in a 255/80R17 which is 33.1" in diameter.

But your cheapest avenue is Rubicon takeoffs.
That’s the tire I planned to run. I like pizza cutters. But my KO2’s were priced to good to pass up.

This guy explains it so well I know we like fat tires but. But pizza cutters have a place in the offroading community. Check out 4:30
that’s a good video I watched it a few months ago. I live in the desert and here contact pressure is more valuable than flotation.

2019 Sport 285/70/17 Milestar A/T R's with 1.75" Spidertrax spacers. Just installed so I cannot comment on rain or snow performance but the tires are mostly quiet and it certainly gives it a great look.

I upgraded mine to 285/70/17's Mickey Thompson MTZ BAJA P3's with Pro Comp rims. I lost a couple miles per gallon but am getting 18-20 currently. I don't notice a difference in it's acceleration at all, we did have to trim a little off of the bumper or the part that is under the bumper to stop it from rubbing with a hard turn, like in a parking lot.

How do you like the P3's? That is one of the tires I am considering. I think they look great. There do not seem to be a lot of people running them.
