Sounds like you've decided. Pix when you're done, please.
Absolutely will post up pics.

Gonna go -6mm offset.
Tire Rack and Custom Offsets both have them in stock.

It really is funny, I am a performance guy, I've had any car you can name except for super exotics like Ferrari or Lambo.
Lots of modded Vettes and Stangs, GTRs, and I currently have a Jaguar F Type V6s, but

Something about the Jeep grabs me?

I understand this thread is more about the largest, lightest tire on a non-lifted sport, but here is a monkey-wrench thrown in just for yet another perspective.

For me, living in Colorado I wanted just a little more off-road capability. Not much, certainly no cliff-climbing, rock-shreading, river-swimming plans on my horizon, just something to be able to wander more around the trails around my state. More about the casual on/off-road adventure of the Jeep rather than the full-blown bad-ass assault of a Rubi.

However, from my perspective this does require a lift and not just a larger tire. I've invested in the 2.5" Mopar lift with the goal of 35x12.5x17 All Terrains. Leaning towards either the Nitto EVO Grapplers, Goodyear Duratrac Ultraterrain Wranglers or the BF Goodrich KO2's.

Unfortunately this CV insanity has sidetracked the availability of my desired wheels. Fuel 17x9 -12mm offset. But I did comlete the lift. Here are the before and after pics but still on the stock 245/75R17 Michelins from the factory.

This should give anyone on this thread ample space for any 285 tire they are considering. Plus this lift rides almost like the stock suspension, a little stiffer, but certainly taller. I really do like it. This should provide ample ground clearance now to go anywhere I want to go. Besides, the look is awesome.

Just posting to those who may be on the fence with the worry of whether the larger tires will rub.

That will be perfect with the 35s!

I had the Fuel Mavericks 17x9s with 35s on my JLUR.
Pic is in my avatar.

Yell03,
Yes sir. That is indeed what I'm working towards.

By the way, nice avatar (more specifically, nice Jeep). I like it...

Probably a little biased though.

Another concern, 265/70/17s on a 8.5 inch rim...

I don't want it to look stretched.

From researching, it looks like 265s work on a 7 to 8.5" rim.
285s definitely do.
i had 245 / 65 / 17 nitto at on 17x9 motto metal rims and they didnt look stretched.

285s look a little out of proportion on the Mopar lift. IMO 35s at minimum.

I agree with you. That is too much lift for 285's.
Especially when you add Rubi flares for a little more clearance :) Bigger tires coming soon.

Do you guys off road? what conditions?
The lightest combo I found that I liked was Raceline Clutch wheels and Pathfinder ATs ( made by Hankook)
Wheels are 17x7.5 +18, tires are 285s, tread is flush with fender, tires poke slightly past fenders.
Depending on your off roading, you can do 285s -6 on a stock sport, may rub if you disconnect the sway bar though.
They are only LT tires I think 4 ply, but I don't do any off road that even requires C rated tires ATM ( dirt trails, sand, gravel)
It is a great tire for DD and light off road IMO 15k miles on them and hardly worn, balanced easily and comfortable ride.

No noticeable MPG loss or loss of acceleration

Listen to your wife and go 285...good excuse to lift it if it does rub :)

Never checked the mpg, but ride quality was excellent on my 2018 JLU sport with rubicon take off 28570r17 KO2's and had zero rub issues.

TN mountains sometimes I've had vehicles hunt for a suitable gear while climbing on the interstate. The 8 speed automatic and the 3.6L engine performed so well in the JLU. It did shift down, but only once until the hill was crested. My 4 runner, shifts down then back up before cresting hills, and then bogs and shifts down again, etc - really annoying. The sport with the rubi wheels had no such issues.

Note of caution, I have since traded in the sport for a 2018 JLU Rubicon with KO2s on it, they had 24k miles on them, so I swapped the wheels and tires to the ones that I had on my sport - SO much better. The wheels I swapped in had only 4k miles on them. I can only assume the previous owner of the rubicon did not rotate often enough resulting in some uneven wear and additional vibration.

Thanks, it was a nice ride. Gave it to my son, he traded it for a Ram Rebel. He traded that in on a Audi S4.

I am sure the 265s would be fine.

Most I do is take it on the Beach and over curbs. I will never disconnect the sway bar.

Maybe a wheel out of balance?
