Jeep Wrangler Diesel Gets Canceled in 2022??

On February 25 2018 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) made a statement to Financial Times that they will be canceling the diesel in all cars. The letter never mentions any thing about SUV's only commercial vehicles and Ram 1500 will be safe. They do go to say that they will unveil a 4 year plan for the diesel on 6/1/18.Let me know What do you think?

Emission standers will be relaxed in a few years and the sale of the diesel will all depend on sale numbers.

Tier 3 emission standards were set to phase in 2017 - 2025, they will be costly to diesel. I have farmer and trucking buddies complaining about it. Emmission regulations are making non-commercial diesel vehicles cost prohibitive. The added cost to commercial vehicles will eventually be passed on to the consumer. Commercial vehicles that don't require diesel power will use gas.

I really think we will start to see more PHEV's in the next couple years. across the board

I recently came back from England. Britain has totally banned the sale of new small diesels in about 15 years. France and Germany are also proposing to ban automobile diesels at about the same time or perhaps sooner . Trucks, buses, etc. would be exempt for an additional time.
I found electric charging stations in even small out of the way villages. The European Union would also like to stop the sale of all automobile diesels as soon as possible, so I suspect Fiat would not be willing to build a few Jeep diesels for just the US.

I am one of many people holding out for the Diesel Wrangler. I love the projected fuel numbers that Jeep has thrown around and looking forward to a clean running car. With that being said, I spoke to a local mechanic who worked for Chrysler for years who said that don't bother with diesel. He said the up charge and long term engine problems will not be worth it. According to him, having to use Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is joke. What do you guys think?

Will these possible issues make diesel short lived?

The price of the diesel is extra although I’m not sure if how much though. I’ve been with chrysler for 20 years. And your local mechanic isn’t wrong.
The engine it self is great. But we have definitely had our share of DEF and EGR issues. In the 1500 and Grand Cherokee. And when it’s out of warranty. It will be outrageously expensive for repairs. Parts are made in Italy for that engine.

Here is an EGR, crossover tube and cooler with 70,000 in a Ram 1500. This is what we have to look forward too in the 3.0 eco diesel . EGR clogged causing Mass air flow codes.

This is a great thread. Very eye opening. The up charge on the diesel is $3500 (or something like this). Looks like I will be saving money by staying away from the diesel.
