Mine is doing this also. Any resolutions know of except maybe battery?

Mine is about a month old. First 10 days good then off on vacation for 10 days. When tried to start first time after back, brake will not depress, start button turns over to auxiliary. Turn off and repeat one to two times and all is normal. This has continued pattern since (5 days now). Only happens first thing in morning. Good rest of day.

I've had this happen now 5x and I was hopping it was just a fluke or maybe even user error but now I've reproduced it 5 times it's definitely an issue.

On occasion when I unlock the Jeep, put foot on the brake, and hit the push start it will just got to ACC and not start. With foot on brake I hit the button again it will go to RUN but won't start. If I exit the vehicle and lock the door and repeat the process it will never start. Only way to start it is with remote start.

From my troubleshooting I've found:

1.) It only does this after sitting overnight
2.) After I have this problem in the first time it never comes back the remainder of the day.
3.) It does it each time the brake pedal has no "play" in the press

What I mean by the above is I am always able to tell when it won't start because how the brake pedal feels. You know when you have a vehicle with power brakes and the vehicle is off and you pump the brakes a bunch of times and you lose the play in the pedal? That is exactly how the pedal feels when I enter the vehicle after it sitting overnight. The pedal has about 1/8" of play when pressing it to start it in the morning. It seems to be something with the brakes or a sensor in the brakes. I just can't figure out why the pedal feels this way after sitting all night.

So obviously this is the classic "we couldn't reproduce the issue" when I take it to the dealer so I will record a video and put it on YoutTube so I have something to show them. Fortunately, I have remote start but if I didn't have remote start this would be a MAJOR issue.
I have actually had this happen to my 2018 Jeep JLU about 30 times, I have had this Jeep 6 months, and has less than 6000 miles. I have had it at the dealership 3 times now and have even contacted Jeep Customer Service. The dealership has not been able to duplicate it though, I have given them multiple videos and I am getting highly frustrated that this keeps happening. I actually just picked the Jeep up from the dealership for this exact issue today, they had it for 5 days and nothing. But the 5 days prior to me taking it in, it happened every single morning. It used to do it less frequent, only if I let the Jeep sit for like 2 days. It is now happening more than once a week. It's highly frustrating that I paid almost $50,000 for this Jeep and I am dealing with this issue. I am considering doing the arbitration that jeep had suggested. Sucks because I really like my Jeep, but if for some reason my remote battery dies and I am still having this issue. I will be stranded due to the issues this Jeep is having and it appears I am not the only JLU owner having this issue.

Not sure if you saw my follow up post on this but I discovered I just need to push the brake pedal a lot harder then it starts just fine.

Just thought I'd add a little to an older thread. Not being in the mechanics world but what has been described in this thread is the vacuum leaking from or off the brake booster. The vacuum bleeds down over night giving you the hard pedal in the morning. I only suggest this because I have had a brake booster fail before and the results are a hard pedal.

Have mine in the shop at this very moment for same issue, plus a few others. When I called to check on status of my 2018 JLUR the service manager began to tell me he was leaning toward tow package I had installed causing the problem. He said if this is the case it would not be covered by warranty.. I said wait a moment this was doing this before we had the air braking system installed for towing. Told him this issue was all over to forum and he said he would have to look into the Jeep Forum, like I did not have a clue what I was saying.. I have since printed several pages to take with me when I pick up my jeep. Think more of these dealer service centers should get on there and read about all the issues we are having with the JL.

This isn't a new issue with any push-button start equipped vehicle. I don't think dealerships should act confused or blame packages they installed, that's bizarre. If you have to stand on the brake pedal to get it started then the sensor needs adjusting or the pedal replaced.
Older style pedals had a sensor/switch that was engaged when you pressed the pedal, you could unclip the switch, screw it out a little, and clip back in. Newer pedals are plug and play, sensor is built-in, I can't find a JL pedal for sale but I'll look at mine today.
Stiff/firm pedal in the morning is normal, the brake booster only gives you the soft cushy brake feel when the engine is running, via vacuum or electric boost. But it should not have anything to do with starting, the switch should be engaged before you have to press the pedal that far.

Just had this happen to our Jeep JL MOAB 2018 today. Very similar symptoms except even remote start and hard pressing the brake pedal did not work.

Finally got it working by pressing the Start button -- without -- foot on the brake pedal. That seemed to have taken it out of whatever lock mode it was in. At that point the brake pedal felt normal and we were able to start the Jeep.

We'll see if this happens again but that was certainly annoying trying to get out of the house on time this morning.

You guys that are reporting having success pushing the brake hard, to start: I don't even know if it uses the same sensor but try having an assistant observe the brake LIGHTS while you go through the process of start failure, then start success....you may (or may not) see a connection....?

The point of this exercise would be that, if the lights don't come on, then you would KNOW that the Jeep brain box doesn't know you have your foot on the brake...

There's a brake pedal sensor under the dash near the firewall. It looks like a little lever type of sensor. You're sensor may be out of calibration or the tolerance stack up of all the parts may be off a bit. I don't see any adjustment. Check to see it's tight and seated. There may be some clearance in the screw holes that allow you to loosen it and move it (rotate it clockwise, viewed from the right side) which should make it trip earlier.

Here's a pic , looking from the throttle pedal side, up and left. You can see one of the torx screws holding it. I'd try loosening them and rotating the sensor so the lever is depressed more.

Hereā€™s my experience with the break pedal issue:

Got in my 2019 JLUR to start, pressed break pedal, and break would not depress (hard pedal).

Took Jeep into dealer and left the Jeep with dealer overnight.

Went on JLforum and found this thread. The exact same behavior described by 1quick1 on this thread was what I was experiencing. I printed out the thread.

Next day, dealership called and said Jeep was ready. Got to dealer and service advisor said could not duplicate the break issue and would not look into it further because of the after market Demco Air Force One break system that was installed on my Jeep.

I pulled out this forum thread, showed it to the service advisor, and said others have documented this exact same issue and do not have the Air Force One break system.

Side note: I tow my Jeep behind an RV, and had called Demco prior to going to the dealer and asked them if their RV breaking system could cause this. Demco said only three items on the Air Force One break system could cause this 1) port issue on break control box 2) check valves incorrectly installed 3) faulty check valves. These three items were not the culprit. I checked the first two items and verified they were correctly installed and the Jeep dealer verified the third was not the issue - read on.

I ended up at the service managerā€™s desk. He agreed to look at issue in more detail thanks in a very large part to this forum thread. Service manager said they would bypass Air Force One to see if they could replicate the issue.

Dealership kept Jeep over the weekend. When they got in the Jeep on Monday morning, break pedal would not depress (hard pedal). They then vacuum tested the Jeep system overnight and a JEEP check valve failed the test. They replaced part number ā€œHose Vacu 14089002ā€.

I have used the Jeep under many conditions, over many months, including towing behind the RV, to make sure the issue has been solved. The dealershipā€™s fix has indeed appeared to have solved my break pedal issue.
