My issue went away when I realized I just had to hit the brake pedal harder. My other vehicles didn't have push start so jamming the brake was never needed.
I hear what you’re saying. And can press really hard and make it work. But it works fine rest of day. Only after the Jeep sits overnight is it difficult to push down the brake pedal and start the vehicle.

I'm experiencing a similar but not exactly the same issue in my 1 week JLUS. When I push the start button occasionally the Jeep will go into a constant "I'm trying to start but cant quite turn the engine over" mode. It tries, quits, tries, quits until I push the button again to stop the agony. Then the next time I hold the button and it starts. Everyone in the Jeep looks at each other like "did you pay $45k and are already having issues". Then I hope it never happens again and I've seen it 4 times so far.

It seems that if I push and hold the button until it completely starts I get better results and if the car has warmed up, better results. Kinda like a push button start lawn mower. Otherwise I smile everytime I'm in the Jeep, what a fantastic vehicle.

Hmmm....

I don’t think this is a user error. I had a deal on a JLU sportS. Got it home and within 5 minuets hat the freedom tops off and tried to start and I had the exact same issue. Remote start would not work either. Brake pedal very firm but this one would not go to accessory or run. Placing the FOB next to start button didn’t resolve issue. In fact the evic shows the message “press brake + start button to start. Also the gear shift indicator light showing PRND was lit up also. Both stayed on for 2 days straight before it was towed out of my driveway. This was the 2nd Wrangler I tried to purchase that day. First one had a bad whistle coming from drivers door seal near the dash. Fortunately the dealer agreed to take back the disabled one and offered a sweet deal on a Sahara for all of our troubles that day. Sadly it’s at the dealer now for start stop problems as well. Mine studders real bad at idle and at freeway speeds.

COBoarder,

I went to the dealership today to pick up my JL Sahara, straight order from factory, and had the exact same issue with it trying to turn over for a good 5-8 seconds and not doing anything. The salesman was in the jeep going over the demo when it occurred, so I didn't need to replicate. Needless to say, they took it back and said that a starter case is sometimes loose from factory, so they tighted and it was fixed.

Not 20 minutes later trying to leave after paperwork.. does it again. It will start after a couple of tries, noting prior posts making sure I FIRMLY press on the brake, but I was easily able to replicate it in front of them afterwards. Was a sad day.. have been waiting a month or two for it to arrive just to have it taken away lol

They are suppose to call chrysler to diagnose, but I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one. I will definitely update you as to what they say, definitely keep us updated on yours as well. Also first post, nice to be here!

If your PRND was lit up, I wonder if the computer thinks you are not in a P or N gear so it won't start.

Dealer said that they cut a wire when removing the dealer add on security system but I am not buying their story. They had 2 techs in my driveway trying to figure it out and I specifically asked if it had anything to do with the security system and they said no.

Doesn't matter as they offered to take it back and towed it out of my driveway.

Thanks Jon....I had an appointment to take it in to the dealer on Thursday but the starting issue didn't happen for 5 starts so I cancelled the appointment and sure enough I'm seeing it again. Clicking isn't the right term, more like the engine is turning over but just can't quite start. I don't think it's related to the brake, seems like battery to starter issue.

Since it's so intermittent, I'm hesitant to take it to the dealer and have them mess with my almost 100% jeep. I guess I'm waiting for others to have the problem so my Jeep isn't the guinea pig on the fix.

So my fiancé went to start her Jeep this morning and wouldn’t start. Haven’t been home yet to try the things I’ve read in here but my real question is why is this an issue on a $40,000 + vehicle and why isn’t Chrysler doing something to remedy the problem cuz apparently something isn’t right with the brake system if that’s what’s actually causing the problem. 2018 Jeep Wrangler JLU sport s.

The cost of your Jeep is tied to the more options you got, not a guarantee of better quality over someone who may have paid less.

It doesn’t matter if you paid 30k or 50k+ FCA is not putting out quality products nor helping dealers fix the long list of problems on JL

Yeah, I get that. My commentary is on the trend in general of people posting the high cost of their vehicle as a point they should not have to be dealing with a particular problem when it has nothing to do with it. Higher costs vehicles have more crap to go wrong and the likelihood of it happening. It's an elitist statement. It is very prevalent on new truck forums where some push $80K+ barrier.

QQ for those of you experiencing this...are the doors closed (like completely closed) and seatbelts buckled? I'm wondering if Auto Park has anything to do with this.

My last five vehicles (between me and my wife's) have had push button starts, though none were Jeeps. In all of them, you just had to step on the brake and push the button briefly and they'd start. The ONLY time the brake pedal was hard with no play was when you'd try to start the car without the key fob inside the vehicle (you won't believe how often this happens when you just assume you have the fob in your pocket or bag or whatever). That first press on the brake must fill the line and make it harden up. If that's happening when the Wrangler is just sitting around with no one touching the brake, it sounds to me like a problem with the braking system. The system should not be pressurizing itself.

Did your fiance get it started? Are you planning on bringing this to the attention of the dealer? Send me a direct message with your VIN so that I can formally document what happened and escalate if needed.

UPDATE -/- apparently when I received the jeep, the battery wasn’t fully changed. This problem went away after 2 week and now the jeep starts at every push of the button. Back to 100%. No issues on a beautiful jeep
