I dont drive around like Vin Diesel at all times with my hand on top of the wheel and leaned almost into the passenger seat so there are plenty of times I just dont have reasonable time to get a hand up I don't stress it.
Lol. That's actually my driving position, as my right hand is usually holding a mug of coffee.
As such, it makes it easy to lift two fingers as I pass. Honestly, most of the time I don't even watch for reciprocity. It's about showing My enjoyment, and respect, for the Jeep culture. I don't expect everyone else to feel the same.

Yea this is pretty much it. Wave if you want, dont wave if you dont just dont be pissy when someone else doesnt. We all enjoy our Jeeps for different reasons, no need to force everyone to be the same.

In the metro area: no wave.
In the mountains: wave.
This is the way.
Smokey: Almost! John: Love the Mando reference, BUT: Can we amend this to:
In the metro area: no wave.
ON THE TRAIL: Wave.

I think THIS is the way.

My rule is I wave only on 2 lane roads and if they dont have an angry grille.
YES. How is the "Does it have an angry grill?" question not on the other guy's decision tree diagram?!
Does it have an angry grill?
Yes.
Response: Scornful head shake; NO wave.

First world problems. Imagine yourself living in a country where all they have to drive are donkey’s. I bet they ALL donkey wave to each other because they can never miss it, donkeys aren’t very fast. When I wonder if I should jeep wave, I imagine myself driving a donkey 5mph and waving to all the other donkey drivers and then I am grateful for the jeep I have and the others I can wave to.

In all seriousness though, I think it is forced and uncomfortable by some. I’ve been out of my Jeep in a parking lot walking by someone getting in or out of their Jeep and said “Jeep wave” and waved to them while I walked by. Some are weirded out and then some others respond with a HUGE smile. Those huge smile folks are my favorite.

Jeep wave to me is similar to “how’s it going?” You’re really not asking, you don’t really care, you just say it because that’s what we do in America to greet others under obligation. That being said, if you own a jeep, you’re under obligation to smile and wave to other Jeeps as well as stop and help them if they’re on the side of the road. Might as well make the best of it and have fun, right? 😄

Thumbs DOWN. I hate people waving on the trail. I sat for 6 hours once because I was expecting 5 more rigs coming down the single track trail, the guy showed me “5” as he drove by.

what's up with people in white jeeps......our experience is, if someone's NOT going to wave, it's more oftern white jeeps than any other color. about to the point that if it's a white jeep headed towards us, they're going to get the one-finger wave.............

on an unrelated side note, if my wife leaves a pink duck on a bad-ass jeep (obviously owned by a guy), will it just get thrown in the trash?..........

@Jeepmojave85,

William, et. al.,

Recall the Jeep wave started in the military back in WWII. Soldiers would casually salute each other in passing with the V 'victory' sign to indicate the respect for fighting alongside each other in the cause for good.

I am humbly honored to carry on this tradition to all my brothers and sisters who likely have the same kindred spirit. Owning a Jeep shows a sense of character that goes way beyond just driving an ordinary jalopy. We all have a subtle bond to those that have driven these machines before us.

For me the Jeep wave isn't so much a mere hand gesture that requires complicated rules or a comprehensive decision flow diagram, but rather a salute between people who may not even know the camaraderie which exists between our spirits.

Jeep ownership means more than just the machines involved. It means freedom beyond the ordinary, it displays a commitment that goes well beyond driving any other mere automobile, it represents an appreciation to stand above the rest and above all a kindred bond and 'spirit de corps' for all who experience the Jeeping tradition.

I'll proudly wave to all Jeep's that I pass. Much like those brave souls that gave their very best in times of real struggle, I'll always respect those that clearly are way more than what they may seem in passing. You have earned a 'salute' from me for just being a part of this fine and storied history.

And even if you don't wave back, you can still count on a V sign from me on our next passage. We're all in this current struggle together.

I'm also for raising the bar in showing appreciation and courtesy on our roads in general. If Jeepers have to lead the way, we can certainly stand on the shoulders of those before us to lead by example.

The wave means so much more than what it casually appears. Be proud of that.

Two finger salute...
Cheers,
Jay

P.S. I drive a Bright White lifted on 35's 2019 Sport S 2 door. Best damn vehicle on the planet.

[Edit] A few photos to prove it.
