I haven't received any emails like that, but maybe I'm still too new to the family.

Don't know if I've seen a thread on any forum go quite as far off the rails as this one, and I think I posted an early comment that I think at least contributed to where it is now. Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed...
Strange I guess I’m the unlucky one who Mopar selected for all of its spam haha

Yeah it was a crazy ride but we all held hands at the end. Family is family lol

Oh geez. Can you all agree to disagree and move on? When reading the initial posts last night I was laughing. Then all of a sudden the topic changed to money and I scrolled back to the top to make sure I hadn't accidentally clicked on some Forbes Magazine ad and was now in their forum. Nope. It clearly said Wrangler Forums.

I then logged out as the thread was and still is hijacked.

I respect this. It's a topic that probably doesn't interest you much, off the rails from the OP's original intention, and suffering from "been there done that" in its being allowed to take its full course here. I suppose I could argue how so many threads go off the rails, but that's like justifying debt in the US by saying, "everyone's in over their heads."

My defense is that nothing is so fundamental to intelligence and its application in the Wrangler space as the need to call out people "renting their lifestyles," driving Wranglers, often blinged out no less, thinking they can afford them because their minimal credit card payment (which would take them around 272.4 years to pay off at that rate) is still within enough for them to "handle" monthly, with no reserve money for retirement or a rainy day.

This is not a "when I was your age," old man post. Plenty of old people work until the day they die having never gotten a handle on their debt, many young ones save, although the expertly followed trend says debt and materialism is worse in younger generations.

And any thoughts to these expenses being up to the individual and none of anyone else's business, while a valid argument, fails to account for the cost to the responsible people of renting money (i.e. taking a loan) at interest rates that are jacked up by those who couldn't make their payments not so much because they fell on bad times (to which I attach sympathy because none of us have guarantees in this world) but those who simply didn't understand or care that they were taking on too much debt.

I think I could fit into a phone booth the number of them that thought, "gee, if I don't pay this back, the market will have to cover for me," in higher loan rates for us all.

Where would you find a phone booth today?

When I hit the market to find Rubicon take-offs I ended up at a foot surgeons driveway in front of what had to be a $2mm home- a new Escalade and a new Benz sedan parked to the side and a Rubicon parked in the garage with one of the four garage doors up. Out walks the @45 yo surgeon in a tank top with arms that could safely be termed “ripped”. Clearly he was acutely aware of his apprearance. Perhaps too aware. But fine. To each his own.

But here’s the thing, the point I wanted to make. The Rubicon had a dealer tag on it- even after spending several grand (borrowed on a credit card no doubt) on wheels and tires, a lift, and whatever else I couldn’t see from the driveway. I asked him which dealership he owned, (before he informed me he is a surgeon) and then I asked him why he had a D tag on the Jeep. Without coming right out and telling me that he was having some trouble getting financed due to the giant mountain of debt he has, that’s essentially what he told me. “He wasn’t happy with his interest rate.”- or something similar to that. For all practical purposes, he’s broke.

The average American millionaire reaches that status at age 57 with an earned income of just over $350,000 a year. Read that again.

So... how different is an average Wrangler owner from the X5 owner that was referenced? In my view, the typical Rubicon owner isn’t much different from the X5 owner.

If time is money, than why waste it on a garbage thread like this? You'd be better off watching porn instead, it will kill less brain cells and leave you happier!

I don't have a f*king clue as to what your point may be.

Now that I’ve found where all the intelligent people post, I can ask something that I’ve been wondering about.
If two people on opposite sides of the earth each drop a slice of bread on the ground at the same time, does the whole world become a sandwich?

That's an easy one.;) It all depends on whether portions of your sandwich are allowed outside the limits of your bread (as observed directly above the bread, itself perfectly perpendicular to the tangent of the earth at the point where the middle of the bread is laid down.) Is so, then yes (because the earth isn't perfectly round).;)

But no otherwise.;)

I wonder what percentage of us were intelligent enough to pay cash? Hmm...

Intelligence has nothing to do with one's ability to pay cash for a Jeep JL or not. Sound like you've subscribed to some illogical and deceptive Dave Ramsey BS, whom filed bankruptcy to become debt free...

Anyway, you can't make a blanket statement like that, without understanding each and every person's different financial situation and risk appetite.

Yes but for a while there was not a lot of returns unless you play the stocks and that’s a gamble too! Since Jeeps hold a value just think of it a a small loss!
There are a lot of other places to invest money besides stocks and bonds. I can get 7% in my sleep and since 2008 have gotten a 14% plus per year return. Why pay cash when I can pay 2.99% and earn 14% You just have to have the right skill set

Ummm... who could afford to pay in cash? The new JL was expensive! I will be paying the damn thing off for the next 8 years. Good thing they last a lot longer than that.
