Maybe I'm off, but it seems like I used to be able to buy a Wrangler for 36k and trade in my old one for 25k and pay a 13k or so difference after about 4 or 5 years. You'd end up with a new warranty, new jeep, new car smell. Fast forward to 2024 and now it seems like I can get 24k for my 5 year old jeep, but the new one is going to run me 50k plus.

Now I look at my 2018s and think, no engine upgrades, there was a 2024 model refresh, but is it really worth 30k plus at this point to upgrade to a new one or just keep my older ones and fix them. I cant come up with a compelling reason to trade them in. A new engine would have done it, or maybe some other cool feature. Anyone else having the same issue. To make it even worst, I'm in one of those states where I cant even go look a a 2 door since it is all 4 door 4xes on the lot.

I just came from 19 and got myself into a 24 MY and it was worth it. The refresh was nice. But the feel especially the steering is improved.
Thanks for the info. I guess I need to go test drive a new one.

I don’t know what you want us to say. Yes, vehicles are more expensive now.
And they don't even have Pumk'n as a color anymore. My 4 door is that color as well. I get that they are more expensive, but it seems like the gap has just gotten to be much wider.

I bought a used Sahara last year because I didn’t see the value in the refresh (just my opinion).

up to you, but the Covid is past and trade in values are ‘more normal’ and new cars are expensive…

my used Sahara has the alpine stereo with the bigger screen so that was big enough, I didn’t need the giant screen in the refresh jeeps. The new grill is fine looking and the new wheel styles are nice but not enough to overcome the cost of the new vehicles.

you’ll just have to decide how important the refresh features are to you.

For me, my thoughts. Paid off Jeep. Can upgrade every bolt and part on it if I choose. Why jump back into slavery and debt when what I have is adequate and upgradeable? I can even purchase an extended warranty. They have some impressive new car-smell air fresheners, too.

That $650-1100 a month (whatever rate you fall into) can go quite a long way elsewhere.

reasons I would upgrade: Total loss only.

Yea there is a huge price jump for the 2024, plus the JL resale doesn't seem as good as the JK.

You can probably snag a new 2023, and get the warranty.

I personally don't see any value in the 2024 vs my 2021, I wanted to switch to a Willys in 2023, but Canadian Willys don't come with the Sky-One Touch.

For me to look at the 2024 Sahara, it's a 40K+ difference between the trade of the 2021 and the price of the 2024, there are also a few negatives, windshield, airbags, big screen TV etc.

previously trade to purchase difference -
2007 to 2016 it was $15k
2015 to 2018 it was $23k
2018 to 2021 it was $19K - COVID?
2021 - 2024 would be $40k spread

but also it's one thing to be messing around with a $50K Wrangler, and a completely different ball game when it's $80K.

since I was always trading up I really didn't pay too much attention to prices, the "same" 2007 30K Sahara JK is now a $80K Sahara JL, I could have afforded to treat a $30K vehicle like a Wrangler, but not at $80k

Canadian prices.

A short and cheap flight from Denver to Phoenix and you can see a huge selection of both 2 and 4 door Jeeps. There are 2.0's. 3.6's and 392's in various trims, plenty have arrived just recently and lots are full.

Stellantis has been on an absolute bender, where recurrent price increases are concerned.

In the span of just over 3 years, the price of my very modestly-configured Sport has increased by $6K. In the same period, the starting price for the 392 has increased by a breathtaking $20K.

I don't see the value proposition in the brand's behavior here, but enough people do that they continue to purchase Wranglers. These economic signals have the desired and collateral effect of creating the pricing support that allows Stellantis to continue doing what they're doing.

If such price growth can occur during and after a worldwide pandemic, and in the current environment of historic rates of inflation without abating, then it's likely to continue indefinitely.

I say: take care of what's yours and hold on to it.

You know I can agree with a lot of the people here. The jeep is more expensive now compared to my 19 at time of purchase. The only reason I was able to get into my 24 JLU was because my 19 3.6L was a lemon and I was able to use that money to get my self into the current MY. If I hadn’t had a lemon I would have been perfectly happy with it and not having that car payment for sure. The refresh is nice is it worth it? Ehhh subjective for the price you are going to now.

It isn't just Jeep, you should see the Tacoma forums now that the new one has come up. People are losing their minds. Some models are about a $10K jump and they have not even released the Pro yet. My 2022 sport double cab with the long bed was $42K, and pricing the new one is low 50s.

The only way out is for people to tell the manufacturers they've had enough and we will not buy a Wrangler at that price. Look at the Gladiators now....15k off MSRP to start and they still aren't selling.

How has the new car industry MSRP as a whole changed, and also compared to other consumer goods over those same 3 years?
