Its about that time of year again readying for winter mud salt and brine. So this is for all those that wonder how effective Jeep rust prevention is from using just spray cans firsthand.

If you want almost zero rust go for a double pronged approach. We had rust forming everywhere to the underbody after a single winter season of salt and brine covered roads. If we did nothing - rust would continue to silently eat away at unprotected metal everywhere.

So last year we sprayed 4 tins of CRC Marine to all visible areas after removing rust where we could. Then let dry overnight and top-coated everything with another can. Also sprayed 1/4 tin of free flowing Corrosion Free into the non-visible frame rails after flushing out the sand and mud with water. We did have a tin of Fluid Film on hand but ended up returning it - after reading about sand and mud sticking to it in frame rails.

Couple of weeks ago checked the condition of the underbody to prepare for another harsh winter driving up salt and brine covered roadways leading to various ski resorts. Surprisingly but happily found only a couple of old rust spots that were not cleaned up well enough the first time. Fixed those quickly and sprayed 1/2 tin of CRC Marine to only those areas that needed it. Left everything else untouched - as the CRC was still there and no rust was under it.

So first year application - 7 hours +/- kinda PITA
Second year application - less than 1 hour very easy
Used ramps - mask up with eyewear - put on disposable clothes

Amazingly the JL underbody still looks almost new - since the CRC cannot be removed with road spray or even direct pressure washing. Never cover it up with black paint or black undercoating. Always leave bare metal or OEM black paint visible under the CRC. This way you can always see for sure if any rust forms or spreads under the semi-transparent amber coloured CRC.

In our case more than 99% of the CRC was still there with no new rust under. So was a huge success. Product dries to a waxy coat similar to a few other cosmoline sprays available. CRC especially is very durable yet very cost effective comparatively.

For quick rinses this year - bought a 3 nozzle underbody pressure washer attachment to spray off mud from super muddy FSRs and salt brine from ski hill roadways. Flushing the rails no doubt also helps.

Overall very impressed as the CRC outperformed. Definitely a go to product for extremely harsh environments.
