Wait... the JK? The rollbar was extended on the YJ. Don’t remember the years exactly but the original YJ (87-?) had the angled roll cage that led to tragedies like your friend’s (sorry, by the way, that’s really sad). I want to say it was 1991 when they squared it off to better protect rear passengers.

Having said that, great work OP. That looks awesome.
Squared rollcage debuted in 92. Same year the Sahara debuted. Pretty sure abs became an option that year too.

Posting this after numerous requests on the specifics of my install. My goal was to add an OEM look third row with fold/tumble feature and with working seat belts. I began with the goal of shoulder belts with the roll bar extender but i'm not willing to give up my soft top at the moment so I went with lap belts.

Here are the parts:
1. JK OEM leather rear fold/tumble bench
2. JKU 3rd aftermarket brackets (not sure what brand. bought everything together from a seller).
3. 1/2" nuts/bolts, weather strip, silicone.

Here are the photos. The most time consuming part is measuring everything out. At the moment, all features work. But to drop my top all the way from safari mode, I need to fold the seat once then reopen. The headrests need to be taken off for full fold/tumble. Legroom is very reasonable for my 12 year old and the seats are very comfortable.

Not much information out there on this project on JL's. Hope this gives you a way forward if you're looking for a solution.

Need to clean up the carpet area. Plan to use the OEM Mopar All Weather cargo mats in the rear. Will need to probably trim them.

The factory seat belt receiver wouldn't work with my cheap amazon seat belt. I tucked it in and mounted the aftermarket ones.

I love it! What does it look like from under the Jeep? Is there a support plate or just bolts and washers?

If only FCA would make a 3 row Jeep. It's been 10 years since the Commander was discontinued. I have heard rumors of the grand commander for years...zzzzz

Well they already have the Gladiator platform. Wheelbase is long enough they could give it six doors and four rows of seats...

I also had this on my JKU, the teraflex brackets used outserts (they sucked) but I bolted it in. How did you measure off the placement? The JKU had a bolt on the drivers side that was right beside the gas tank, You could easily drill into. I also had the Rock Hard Roll addition. I welded in some OEM seal belts as well.

Has anyone seen installs with just a single seat off to the side of the trunk on a 4door JL?

I've been hoping people would get after this idea. I pulled the rear seat out of my 2 door 15 minutes after I bought it, and need someone to take it off my hands.
Where are you located? I’ll buy it.

Built this myself with an extra child’s car seat. I researched several options but couldn’t find anything available. This holds my 7 year old down nicely but I wouldn’t go on the highway, just local roads.

How do you have seat fastened? Looks like your harness is attached to cargo loops and hardtop bolts right?

Yes - I used tie downs into the hardtop bolts to anchor the top straps of the 4 point harness. The lap straps are tied into the trunk anchors.

I cut the 4 point harness down and used grommets to secure holes.

The child’s car seat works well has it has seat belt guides at each shoulder and fits flat against the floor. The whole project was $100.
