I think it has the absurdly tall gearing so they can get enough factory MPG to be able to sell it. This is of course knowing that anyone that actually buys this is going to rip out the Dana 44’s before even looking at it.
Are you sure? Someone who has deep enough pockets and not worried about warranty and stuff would have done a Hemi conversion also.

I think people who get a 392 Rubicon will use it mostly stock at least until the warranty runs out. If it's a limited production, they might not even butcher it after warranty ends.

It's just a concept.
They are letting you know that if you want a 392 in your wrangler it is possible.
They will never sell you one from the factory.
Plus, if you can afford a 80k wrangler, you can afford to have someone do the swap.
Stop waiting for jeep to make it if you really want it.
Sure you wont have a factory MOPAR warranty, but suck it up and do it if you want it so bad and STFU about it please.
Again not a concept. This is actually coming.

If FCA is smart they will wait until Ford releases their Bronco Warthog or whatever their Raptor style Bronco is gonna be called. Because if they release it before then Ford will just be like....oh 392...Here is our Warthog and we put in a better V8 ...

What proof do you have? Many many concepts have never made it to production.
I suppose since you don’t know me from Adam it makes no impact. An inside source at FCA I know. He’s already on the list to grab it first thing.

Very true, and if you really do have an inside source that is great. I found this just to be a publicity stunt to take some focus off the bronco.

This FCA announcement just sounds like a giant F U loyal customers. To me, it goes something like this:

Customers: "Hey FCA, how about a more powerful engine or V8?"
FCA: "Look at this concept car with the V8 showing that it's possible."
Customers: "Cool, when can we get one?"
FCA: "Nope, never going to happen. You'll buy what we offer and be happy because no one else has anything like the Wrangler. Now piss off."
Customers: "Fine"
Ford: "Check out our new Bronco. More capable than the Wrangler from factory with full warranty."
FCA Executives talking among themselves: "Uh oh, Ford is going to steal our customers now that they have options. Better give our customers we've been ignoring for years something to keep them loyal."
FCA: "Look everyone, we have this V8 Wrangler we'll put into production like you've wanted. We've been listening all along and are giving you, our loyal customers, what you want."

I think Jeep has had the 392 in their back pocket for some time. It's not a card they were willing to play until the needed it. Now they need to one up the 2.7 Ecoboost. And it's a stopgap until the I6 is ready.

I think it's a bragging rights engine and will have the price tag to match.

Once Broncos actually hit the road, if the I6 is still some time away, I could see Jeep offering the 5.7 as a bridge option.

Agree 100% with you on this. This will keep wrangler sales going until this inline 6 appears.

July 13, 2020 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - The last time the most recognizable vehicle on the planet was offered with a V-8 engine was in the 1981 Jeep® CJ, with its 5.0-liter V-8 that delivered 125 horsepower and 220 lb.-ft. of torque.

Jeep enthusiasts have been clamoring for a V-8-powered production Wrangler in recent years and the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept is an indication they may soon get their wish.

The Jeep brand has introduced its new Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept, powered by a 6.4-liter (392-cubic-inch) V-8 engine that delivers 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque, and a 0-60 mph time of less than five seconds. Dana 44 axles, a full-time two-speed transfer case, electric front and rear axle lockers, 37-inch mud-terrain tires and a Jeep Performance Parts two-inch lift kit from Mopar combine with suspension enhancements, a more robust eight-speed transmission and the massive V-8 power plant to deliver the ultimate fun-to-drive Jeep vehicle with more off-road capability than ever in a Jeep Wrangler.

“Jeep Wrangler enthusiasts have been asking us for a Wrangler V-8 and our new Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept proves that we have the ability to make that happen,” said Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA North America. “From the recently introduced 29-mpg Wrangler EcoDiesel to our award-winning Jeep Gladiator, and the upcoming Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, Jeep is clearly listening to its customers. We are anxious to gauge their reaction to this new Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept, a vehicle that delivers an incredible and unmatched level of fun-to-drive performance and capability, on- and off-road.”

Power, performance and capability on- and off-road
To accommodate its 6.4-liter V-8 engine and a stronger eight-speed transmission, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept features upgraded engine mounts and a modified frame. Suspension upgrades include new aluminum, monotube Fox shocks for improved damping and heat dissipation. A two-mode exhaust alters the performance sound at the touch of a button.

The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept boasts even more capability courtesy of third-generation Dana 44 axles, a Selec-Track full-time two-speed transfer case, Tru-Lok electric front- and rear-axle locking differentials and 37-inch mud-terrain tires that wrap around custom 17-inch beadlock wheels that hold the tires to the rims under extreme lateral loads, allowing for reduced tire pressure operation and added traction.

A factory Jeep Performance Parts two-inch lift kit from Mopar makes way for additional suspension articulation and improved approach, breakover and departure angles. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept also features Rubicon rock rails, steel bumpers with a Warn winch and a steel belly pan – all added to help navigate the toughest off-road terrains.

The more robust eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4x4 transfer case improve overall drivability, and massive amounts of low-end torque allow for a 3.73 gear ratio, which delivers improved highway efficiency and a greater range of off-road capability.

Enhanced Jeep Trail Rated capability
The Jeep brand boasts several Trail Rated criteria, which are improved on the Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept, specifically:
  • Traction is improved courtesy of 450 lb.-ft. of torque and custom 17-inch beadlock wheels
  • A factory Jeep Performance Parts two-inch lift kit and 37-inch tires combine to improve articulation and contribute to unprecedented levels of water fording capability (34 inches) and ground clearance (13.25 inches), as well as improved approach (51.6 degrees), breakover (29.5 degrees) and departure (40.1 degrees) angles.
Unique, custom design inside and out
The new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept features Granite Crystal exterior paint adorned with Bronze accentuated tow hooks, badging, springs, shocks and wheels, while featuring a heavy-duty raised performance hood with an aggressive appearance, custom half doors and Wrangler’s Sky One-touch powertop, with removable side panels for complete open-air freedom.

Inside, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept features rich Red Rock-colored leather bolstered seats with gold stitching, along with a performance steering wheel.

one wonders if the very progressive states will tolerate such a beast when endorsing cycling , walking and eating salads is just about the only lifestyle that will secure the continuity of life on earth

Typically, cars that are deemed concepts don’t make it to fruition. To me, adding larger tires, axles and a motor you already have in your factory is not a concept, it’s a trim level. So, if they consider this approach a concept, I have my serious doubts this will happen. But then again, I never thought they would put over 700hp in a grand Cherokee.
