tldr Our normal high right now is 64F. We're almost 30F above that. (Which is 50% hotter than normal omg!!! *). This also means... They finally put out the flood watch notices. These temps result in lahirs and such.

* I know, temperature doesn't work that way. Hard to believe it's only 5% more heat energy.

** No lahirs hopefully, but it's normally 8-10wk of snowmelt happening in four days.

There was a fire a couple of streets down from me that is wrapping up right now.

We saw it coming in on the ferry this evening and it was super dark smoke. My wife had walked by there about 15 minutes before anything happened. I texted her from the boat, just making sure she was home and that it wasn't our house. She had no idea what I was talking about.

There must have been fire departments from at least five or six neighboring towns that responded.

Early gossip I've heard is that it was arson.

I'd never heard of a zipper merge until about a year ago. I'm like you, I've always felt like the folks trying to merge at the last moment were cheaters, were "me first, fuck everyone else" asswipes, so I made merging difficult for them. But the concept of the zipper merge makes a lot of sense, so I really need to rethink my attitude.

I’m in the other camp. If you want the zipper to work right everyone should go to the end of the lane then merge. Otherwise it isn’t orderly. You get one car merging half a mile from the end of the lane, one or two at a quarter mile away, one or two at 200 yards away, etc. That’s not how a zipper works.
