Steel's fine. I went with synthetic on mine since it needed a new cable when I bought it.
For numerous reasons I would avoid steel winch line.

Word is that Mike is stable but still in the ICU, and that some of his vitals are back to normal. He and the family are awaiting test results. Lots of them. Keep the prayers and well wishes going! He's not out of the woods yet... He's fighting though!

@Billy additional info on this - Warn doesn't provide WLL or breaking strength ratings on the Spydura that comes packaged with their synthetic line equipped winches, which is another consideration. Any reputable aftermarket line maker will provide WLL and breaking strength info.

Yeah, there is the stay the hell away from it when its under tension thing...

That's the Assblaster 7000.
Youre pretty optimistic that you can get a 7000 up in there. Maybe start with a 1000. ;) LOL

i picked you one of these from harbor freight so my mother can get in the jl. they are a perfect size and fold up flat. word of caution keep you fingers clear of the pinch point cuz they hurt like hell. ask me how i know. step stool

Funny. I cant find any steps when people need to get in my Jeep. ;) You get one try and then we go in the Mrs. car. LOL

Just saw Northridge has the Zeon 8 for just over $1,000...
looking for a winch for coal? if so, i would upgrade to at least a 10k#. the warn m series would be the best choice. i have the m8 with the syn-line (100ft) more than enough to double the line to 18k# capacity for my jl.

i would either get the m9.5 or m12 for the gladiator. 100ft of line to double up is more than enough. yeah, your going to pay the price. but at least its reliable and rebuild able.

I'm all ears...
Yeah, tbh, I wouldn't prefer to run it while steel either. Just using it as a launch point to get the winch cheaper and buy your own synthetic line with better features.

Steel is heavier, frays when worn and gets steel splinters into stuff like your hands, when steel line fails (admittedly rare, but it does happen) the line becomes a big heavy projectile, you run big heavy hooks or thimbles on steel lines which is another projectile. Really it's the safety side of steel for if it fails that's the issue. Steel line's been used for decades, and it does work, just kind of gives you the heebie jeebies for the "what ifs", so if you can swing the dough, synthetic is preferred.

Test drive was okay. I centered the steering wheel, slight drip on the cooler end. ( corrected by loosening and retightened the line) and because I am still using the start/stop, there is no power steering when it cuts off at a light. No biggie. The start/stop is off when offroading anyways. I will put the cylinder assist ram on this weekend.
