The most difficult part we had was that the vent had to be switched to PVC. I don't know if that's just a new code thing or part of the tankless install. But we ran a PVC sleeve inside the metal vent up to the roof to meet code.

Yeah, see, other than the gas requirements there's the "direct vent" part. I couldn't even do what you did as I think my flue pipe is an oval shape, and not straight up through the 2nd floor and attic.

First car I bought was a POS 73 Olds with a 455. It cornered like a container ship, but it could pass most anything on the road except a service station. I was glad gas was fairly cheap in the early 80s. Only other V8 I've owned was a 78 Dodge van with the 318. It couldn't pass anything.
