Ours failed over the summer. I cheated and went tankless. So far so good.

I researched and considered it but it was just too much change to the house, not to mention expense. The gas line requirements are more than the half inch in my house.

Just a quick update on your medically challenged ambassador. Ct scan of sinuses shows almost 100% blockage but also something in the area of the pituitary that is suspect. Full blown mri of brain on Thursday with and without contrast with emphasis on pituitary.

Carry on.
We are finally going to find out if you are the Scarecrow or not...huh??

Admittedly, cyclocross racers are weird. Psycho even. Cold, miserably wet day, and I’m out there trashing bikes worth more than a lot of cars. And drinking cold beer…
Sounds rather like sailing, except sailing is long periods of boredom interspersed with moments of sheer terror.

The most difficult part we had was that the vent had to be switched to PVC. I don't know if that's just a new code thing or part of the tankless install. But we ran a PVC sleeve inside the metal vent up to the roof to meet code.

With ya - as long as I could have books this would be a walk in the park. Always easy when you come from a generation that, when we deployed, had zero internet (at least during the first part of my career), TV sometimes, and if we were lucky a phone call once a month back home.
You NOT want to hear about what amenities we had on the bush in '68.
