I don't pay much attention to the media (because it takes a lot of effort to filter out the noise), but I can certainly spot some differences in the responses.

Those are both pictures of protesters that chose to become criminals. I agree the response should be similar.

Tear gas was subsequently used at the Capitol to empty the building. The timeline is not yet clear. (I won't share what else I've seen, just acknowledge that force was used some today.)
