Not sure how accurate this is but one of the news reports said that his passengers told the authorities that he told them that he was about to do a Duke’s of Hazard stunt and that they had a few seconds to either buckle in and hold on or get out.

Despite the time of the incident, being near McDonald's, I'm surprised no pedestrians or other vehicles were involved!

If it was a JT rather than a JK, I'd be concerned that maybe a groundhog was involved.

The European Crash Ratings require all sorts of Pedestrian Safety crap, collision avoidance, Nanny Requirements that would be tough to implement on an 4x4 such as the Wrangler.

exactly.

now, take a euro-buggy, drive it off a 6 story building at 30 MPH, and bounce it across the road......... let me know if the driver survived or was saved by the pedestrian safety devices! Hint: driver=dead in a crushed euro-buggy.

Him? Why couldn't a 20 year old buy a Jeep? Yes they're expensive, but not out of reach, especially if he bought it used.

It's possible he went to trade school and landed a good paying job right out of high school. Maybe he's still an apprentice but they still make decent money.
It's also possible he joined the military. He gets his checks, lives on base and has no significant overhead so he saves most/all the money. It's also possible he deployed and used his combat pay to buy the Jeep.

Just because a typical 20 year old may not be able to buy one, doesn't mean every 20 year old with a Jeep had it bought for them.

My first job out of college, I was paid less than all the 17 year old high school dropouts on site. I was a “supervisor” (no overtime) working in union territory where all the hourly guys put in 84 hours a week.
