Have a 2.0L I4 DOHC DI Turbo eTorque Engine 700 Amp Maintenance Free Battery. ESS not working. Getting the ESS not working Battery Charging message. Called dealership and they can't fit me in till March 18th. Any idea what is going on?? I know I don't have the AUX battery. Any help would be appreciated.

There are only about a thousand different reasons ESS will stop working. What does the ESS display page say?

Odds are strong you have a battery failing. You can check your fuses and ensure tight battery connections while you wait for March to come….

why the hell would you wait 2 months for a battery? If that is the problem, you go to the store, buy a battery, and put it in.

It says ESS unavailable. Battery Charging. But now this morning it started working again.

Try elevating it with the service manager. If he also refuses to squeeze you in sooner, go to another dealer. That’s BS.

The 48v battery in the e-torque is what does the ESS.

Mine has been "ESS Unavailable, Battery charging" for like a year now.
The main battery still has to be charged for ESS to work. The likelihood of the absolute garbage main battery failing is much higher than the 48V battery.

Have you checked voltage of your main battery at all?

I had this problem when I had my 2019 JLU and I initially had to ensure all fuses were seated to wit they weren't after I seated them, the next issue came about four months after that another failure it was the aux battery- just FYI those things fail because of no usage-or should I say you turn that AutoStop off every time you start vehicle.

Is that what happened to yours?
I don’t have BSG, but yes, my main battery failed before the little aux battery did.
It’s very common. The oem batteries are not good.

I had both batteries fail last week and replaced under warranty.. 2019 Turbo 2.0. Side note, one dealer was 5 days out for service and another got me in next day, would def try a diff dealer, that's crazy.

What is the best main battery to buy to replace the OEM? Is the AGM style better than the regular lead acid for the 2L Turbo.

ALSO can we install the dual battery setup with the e-torque 48v battery / BSG configuration (non ESS)???
