This is what happens when you leave Marines alone in Okinawa for too long, lol!

Sounds like them! I pulled the Yama Sakura exercise twice and worked with 3MEF both times. Most of the youngsters were sporting black eyes and would give me the death stare when I gave them the greeting of the day. As a fellow E7 I would hang out in the smoke area with a fellow Gunny. Great dude! I asked him what was wrong with his young Marines after he tore one a new asshole for disrespecting me with the black-eyed death stare and no verbal response to “Good evening Lance Corporal; how are you?” It was about the fifth time in Day two of the exercise and I was about ready to tear into a Marine myself (I’m 6’1”, weighed a tight 215 at the time, with multiple black belt ranks, the highest a 6th degree, with tons of fighting experience in real world situations at that point - and these skinny runts were just kids). He just sighed and said, “Smoke (Army E7 in an artillery unit is usually Chief of Smoke [old school]),” “these young Marines have been brainwashed. When 3rd goes to the field, they give them the most flooded, shitiest area to set up their bivi in. They are taught to think they are naturally-born killers who can take anything. If they last long enough to become NCOs, they grow up.”

Both exercises we were locked-down from the civilian populace due to bad things Marines did to civilians. I only remember the specifics to one of the incidents. Two 3MEF Marines mugged a Japanese civilian of his cell phone and bicycle outside the wire. One made the mistake of jumping one of our ARNG NCOs and was choked unconsciousness. They failed to realize that a sizable portion of our NCO Corps were prior-service Marines LOL!

I felt really bad for those young Marines. You can make boys into tough men, without needlessly torturing them into stupidity.

:CWL:

I had a roommate that did that. Eventually he realized he was unique in his fluency and turned on the subtitles for me.

And then you found the dubbed versions xD
well I wasn't woried about the ones he had.

I do love Studio Ghibli movies though. And while I do appreciate the Japanese voice acting, the A list actors they get for the American dubs are pretty cool!
