I've got a very early soft top and have no issues. It works as it should. However, I could see someone inexperienced or who did not read instructions or watch a demo video having trouble with this and breaking something.

This top, btw, is BY FAR, the best Jeep (Bestop) has produced yet. Love it.

Mine works well too but when I bought it in April, the dealer wanted to force it down. We didn't see the handle at the back and they just kept trying to force it but luckily, I said there has to be some reason why it doesn't want to go and we figured it out.

I'm hoping the dealers are a bit more educated now because I could see this getting broken pretty easily.

My dealership was great in many ways, but I did not allow them to demo anything for precisely that reason. In fact, since mine was their 2nd JL, I gave them the walk around demo of many different features. They are good, well intentioned folks, but this is a more complicated and quirky vehicle than just about any other any carmaker sells.

My soft top works fine except it will not lock down. The lock/unlock mechanism is extremely loose and I think it may be defective.

Mine’s the same, I don’t think it is meant to be a super tough locking mechanism. Get some Velcro straps to wrap around the top, it sits lows, doesn’t flip around, and looks so much better.
