Keep in mind my dealer told me even the stabilizer they use to replace these are bad. They have had multiple customers have their stabilizer replaced 3 times before Jeep has put on a Fox brand stabilizer.

I'm on my first replacement with an appointment for the second, and that's not even getting to the trackbar where I asked about it and he tried t otell me the short wheelbase makes the wandering and steering play normal. Wasn't normal on a JK, shouldn't be on a JL either.

It will interesting to see how much pushback I get for the trackbar. At this point I'm not sure I'll be a Wrangler again beyond a used JK or something.

I'd love to know how Litebrite travels across the country in their JL and what they did to fix theirs because I can barely tolerate 20 minutes on the highway, let alone road trips for hours on end.

New damper installed under STAR bulletin last Friday. New one was date coded x044N - Feb 13th manufacture. We'll see how this one lasts, but so far it did take care of the wobble. Drove it over same areas that induced wobble before and its gone now. If nothing else, at least its documented with the dealer under warranty.

What's the consensus on after market upgrades? Teraflex? Fox? Others?

I'm having mine replaced this coming week as well. Part is on order.
I will update after its installed.

My experience was a very violent shudder in the steering wheel after hitting bumps in the road but only at speeds > 110 kmph or so. Note that this issue is "death wobble" and not steering wandering. My guess is the damper wont do anything at all to help those with steering wandering issues. Its very specific.

If i drove 100, i did not experience it. The faster over 105 or so i went, the worse the vibration. To stop it i would have to slow down to 80-90 kph, and if i did not do that it would continue to get worse and worse until it felt very dangerous.
It was particularly bad after driving over highway expansion joints for some reason.

After fighting with the local dealer and with FCA I am going to let my local off-road shop install a Falcon 2.2 stabilizer, and new track bar. If they feel the tie rod would also benefit to being replaced they will do that to. I should not have to go aftermarket, but no choice as we want to drive our Jeep again.

I bought my 2018 JL Sahara in July of last year. Had no problems until the last two weeks when I started feeling a shaking and wobble of the steering wheel when on the freeway and hit a small bump in the road or had a slight turn. It has happened multiple times now. I have 8,000 miles on my Jeep. After reading this thread and other threads Iā€™m worried itā€™s only going to get worse. I made an appointment to take the Jeep to the dealer. Not good at all. Definitely going to make sure we get to the bottom of the issue and get whatever parts need to be replaced. @JeepCares Please help!!!

It is concerning to me that folks seem to be increasingly coming to one of the threads like this one and are suggesting that after 8,10,12k miles they are having steering/wobble issues. Hopefully the known new parts will fix the problem not just for a year but permenantly.

If you install aftermarket track bars, steering stabilizers, or other steering related components, be sure to save your original OEM parts. That way if your aluminum steering box fails, you can re-install the original parts so they don't deny warranty on the steering box.

I bought my JL 6 weeks ago. The steering issue wasn't noticeable initially, but after a couple of weeks and several hundred miles I began to feel the sloppiness. And then the worst appeared this past weekend. Driving I75 between Naples FL and Venice FL there are several areas of uneven pavement, bridges and other road imperfections. It was nerve wracking to feel the front wheels change direction on their own. I am an experienced driver, in my 50s, and have driven many Jeeps as well as other vehicles over many years. I can say that I've never experienced a steering issue like this and one that makes me uncomfortable to drive on an interstate highway. I've called and made a service appointment to deal with this but after reading through this forum, I'm not holding out much hope for an acceptable resolution.

try putting your tire pressure at 30 psi cold. You'll get a low pressure warning. Just try it. It made a huge difference on my JLUR with BFG K02 tires. Not sure how your 2 dr with different tires would be. My tires were riding on the center and would shift the area contacting the road as it leaned and rolled side to side. This causes a steering (tire input, not mechanical steering system input) input.

Or oversize tires.

I noticed that with the stock/OEM stabilizer with my newly installed 35" tires that the front end (i.e. steering) was susceptible to the ruts in the road, and all sorts of bumps that kinda made the jeep unsettled. After the Teraflex stabilizer, it settled down so much that it actually felt like a whole new vehicle. Although I never really had any steering issues, and my observation is more of a quality of life improvement, so to speak, vs anything else.
I also think the track bar and control arm bushings may be a bit soft which allows the axle assembly to move around. If the axle assembly moves side to side, the drag link will change the steering angle.

I put the adjustable Teraflex/Falcon one in this weekend simply as a preventative measure. Install wasn't bad and the adjustability is nice. Firm is great on the highway, medium is a little firmer than stock, and I suspect (but have not confirmed) that soft will be good on the trails. It was a pretty easy install - maybe 90 mins - but came with no instructions. If I had not found a video I would have been figuring it out by feel.

Stabilizer is just the tip of the iceberg - I am worried enough about this steering situation that I plan to watch this thread and issue generally and slowly upgrade all the other steering components as I wear out the OEM pieces. I have also warned my wife that wobble could happen and what to do about it if it does. Not an ideal situation.
