Was planning to finally put y 392 axle in tomorrow and just noticed the flange at the diff appears a little messed up. Will this still work ok or does it need to be fixed or will damage the driveshaft?

I may buy an adams driveshaft for the front soon but unfortunately it doesnt replace that part like it does on the rear.

Wire brush, run the bolts in and out to clean up the threads before hand and you should be good. I don't see any real damage there, or are you talking about the outer ring and gasket being smushed a bit? Nothing touches that outer ring and your u joint sits flat on the center portion. with the threaded holes.

Yes. The outer ring is messed up a bit because the surface is sunken in some parts. Hard to show it from underneath.

I recall some of the early 392’s had some sort of harmonic balancer set up on them. I’m with @Jeeps2Little on this, clean it up and run it and see how it does. If it vibrates at speed reinstall the FAD or get a new flang and/or driveshaft.

put me in the it looks fine category. clean the threads. as was said that is just dampening ring/harmonic balancer.

I would try to hammer it back in place or cut the ring and rubber off.

Or leave it. If you end up with a high frequency vibration, you'll know where to look.

I think it is where it is supposed to be or at least it looks that way to me...Power wagons have the same set up that is how mine was. I would leave it...
