Is there any sort of protective strip for the top of the gate....

that protects the paint when you're hauling stuff? Seems like there should be something that would snap on or, less preferred, stick on that would protect the gate when you're hauling stuff with the top off. Or, even when you're hauling with the top on and a board or something sticking out.

I use my JL like a truck at times. Every pick up truck now has a pretty nice plastic "bumper" on top of the tailgate. Surely there is a product I'm missing for this?

You could try cutting a pool noodle or other similar foam tubing in half like a hot dog bun.

You could probably get a small strip of XPEL paint protection film installed along the top edge. That would be a bit more subtle than a plastic edge protector, yet still provide some protection in that scenario.

I used pipe insulation and cut it to length. Works great.

One of those cheap door edge protectors from auto zone or Walmart cut to size.

I just use a piece of cardboard. Cheap and easy but I like the pool noodle idea mentioned already.
