My warranty ends on my 2018 JLUR in a few months. To date, other than the OTR leaking issue, I've had no problems. (25,000 miles)
I have several mods on the jeep - 2-1/2" MC game changer lift, fully integrated MC underbody armor, 35s, and rock sliders. To date, I've had my Jeep shop to general maintenance. Two questions: 1) Will the modifications impact warranty coverage in any way?, 2) Is the extended warranty worth it?
TIA

My experience is that dealers like to find excuses not to cover a warranty. I'm sure others have had better luck than I.

A mild suspension, 35" wheels, and underbelly armor should not cause any warranty issues.

This^^^^ buuuuuuut......

I think based on jeeps problems, a warranty is insurance worth having. I am a mechanic. That said, ask your favorite dealer service manager, not the line guy, will he cover anything if you brought your jeep in with your mods plus whatever you plan to do if you have the extended plan?. Then when he says yes, tell him to send you an email stating that. He doesn't? Go to the general manager and tell him what service manager said, and why should you trust a warranty they wont give you an email on?

I used to never buy warranties, and first time I did was my spanking new 2013 JK. With the exploding v6. Engine was fine, in first 12 months I estimate they warrantied about $13,000 of front engine dress components, all of them, to stop a squeak, turns out i had the first version water pump squeak.

Bought a 2013 bmw 335 which is basically an M3 for 30,000 less. Bought the warranty for 2 grand. It drove great, had it checked by two independent mechs in next 6 months, could find nothing wrong, cancelled warranty, got $1,500 back.

Today I have the 2018jlur. Extended warranty through 2025. It has been trouble free other than all the steering recalls, costing me $300 in deductibles, but giving me well over the cost of warranty in parts and labor.

And the answer is....YES and NO!

You may (probably so) need to find a friendly dealer. Unlike my (Former) dealer would would not warranty my TPMS on a jeep with not even 500 mi because "your Jeep did NOT come with 35 inch tires". its out of warranty because of that. Later I went back from something minor and again "NOPE, 35 in tires and as far as we are concerned your jeep is completely out of warranty". I ordered it from them, 2023 JLR

Found another dealer and they had NO PROBLEM with 35s and Fuel wheels, they honored the warranty.

That said anything that could cause an issue that was connected to a OEM component may meet a challenge if its a costly fix.

I would get the extended warranty anyhow and in fact I had it on my JKR-R.. So I take it in to my nearest dealer and tell them my Jeep is pulling hard right under hard stop, maybe it needs to be bled or something?

OK fine, we take care of it.

They have for 3 weeks and finally tell me it ready to go.

I got down there and am hit with a bill for $897.13. WTH, it's in warranty folks. NOPE our records show you have no warranty.

I get in my Jeep to go home and look at my paperwork. Interesting, Turn signals don't work. Hmmm Radio does not play.

Go home and Front turn signals do not work BECUSE the wires have been CUT!!!!

Take Jeep over to Best Buy where they sell Alpine and get the guy to look at it...Back of the radio had been UNPLUGGED!!!! Not by accident.

Went back up there with my Jeep Paperwork and showed it to them. Well that means nothing not in the computer. So I talk one of the services gals to look it up and OPPPPS its in the computer, yes we made a mistake and we owe you money. Then I meet with the Sir mgr he tells me Jeep has NEVER put an Alpine radio in a Jeep Wrangler. I pull out the build sheet and the cost $900 option, I show him and he EXPLODES. Threatens to call the police on me because there is not such radio in a Jeep and any can Xerox some fony paperwork...then he calls up 4 of Mechs and he threatening me physically and we are INSIDE the dealership!

Sadly I was NOT carrying, had I been it would have been a different story.

So what did I do?

Called my bank, told them, documented it in writing to them and 2 weeks later I got a credit for $897.13 and the dealer sent a check for $497.13 , LOL and I cashed it. LOL

Good dealer, bad dealer and Great Dealers and so there you are Yes and No!

I would definitely not give them a penny of my money for Extended Warranty. Save the money and be glad you survived the 36 mos without them ruining your Jeep. Use your money with a good independent mechanic and do as much as you can yourself.

I’m usually all for them. Especially if you’re gonna keep it. But, getting anything covered by Jeep under the factory warranty is like pulling teeth. I can’t imagine using an extended plan, even if it’s a mopar one. GL

Most shops seem to find any reason to not cover anything they can under warranty. I feel like if anything happens to mine during the 3/36 warranty I’m on my own.

I'd buy it just for the warranty on the electronics like the radio and modules etc.

I've never worked at a shop that goes out of their way to not cover things. Generally I only refuse a warranty claim when the vehicle is outrageously modified, and generally we still cover the component with the customer paying a bit of additional labor out of pocket if aftermarket components make the job harder.

I don't understand how so many people have issues getting things covered? I mean I've only worked at two dealers and almost never have had to decline a warranty repair. Only when parts have been replaced with aftermarket components can we not warranty those. I've done plenty of replacements on shit that shouldn't of been warranty because who gives a shit at the end of the day? Chrysler doesn't ask for parts back after the current model year, and never for maxcare claims unless there's a core charge on it.

I'd strongly suggest maxcare unless you've modified to the vehicle to the point where a dealer tech can't reasonably be expected to work on it. Like if you supercharged your engine don't expect the technicians to know how to properly diagnose issues with it.

Maxcare still can cover stupid shit like your window switches breaking etc, which is nice to have
