Is every Jeep dealership in the North East impossible to work with on used Jeeps?

You never should ask if they have wiggle room. Make your offer and keep it lower than your target number. They should make a counter offer. Walk away , they will call in a day or so and make another offer. There is a game to be played and you have to learn how to play it. I just ordered a new Wrangler that stickered out at 52,185. They offered to knock 500 bucks off that. I told them I would pay 47k. 5 days later after much back and forth, they sold me the jeep for 48,873. I thought that was a decent deal.
When the salesman and I first sat down and specked out the jeep he said they would only knock 500 off the vehicle because it was ordered. Point is , they are all full of shit. In year area , there is tons of competition so you should be able to get the price you are after. Money talks. Make an offer ,leave your phone number. They will call.
this basically is all you need to know to sum this topic up, literally... if you have a serious offer for something start throwing numbers out. but just do yourself the favor and make the 2hr drive. wranglers aren't cheap at any dealer...

You haven’t been through hell until you try to negotiate with the dealers in NJ.

Early on, in my search for a new JLUR I tried to negotiate on a 18. 3-5% off(5 months ago). I couldn’t really believe their unwillingness to deal. There just be some quid pro quo going on with FCA and dealers who already paid for the 18’s that make is cost effective to hold on to them.

Yeah, I am trying to do this on the phone. With my wife's cars, I never had an issue doing this on the phone. Going in person is ideal, but some of these dealerships are 2 hours away. So doing the in and and out game doesn't work so well, especially on used. For new, I do this all the time as it's really easy to work the dealerships off each other on the same models.

For a used JL that is most likely a trade in and not an expired lease, this is harder to do. Especially when I also have it narrowed down to a color I want.
Used cars are marked up 3 to 4 k. There is more bargaining room in a used car. Using the phone ? Make an offer. Its all the same. If you have a car to trade , take pics and send them.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. The thing is, I am noticing that Jeep dealers pretty much say screw you. Meanwhile, I have spoken to 4 separate dealerships (Chevy, 2 BMW and Dodge) and all of those guys wanted to get rid of trade ins they got. They were all willing to work with me. We didn't agree on price, but they were willing to wiggle.

I think I am just defeated knowing, I first have to find the car I want again, then negotiate the car again. I don't even feel like the figure I am offering is offensive. I am literally like $1,000 of where we settle in at, and they act like that $1K is the grand canyon of prices.

Also, kind of hurts that I lost 2 cars within a day of getting them, and those cars were sitting with the dealerships for like a month and I some how missed them. It's pretty exhausting.

What did you end up paying, and what extras did it have? I am looking to be at like $36 or $36.5K.

So this is what I always do. This has worked for all my wife's cars. But with Jeep, specifically at Jeep dealerships, they don't give a damn. I literally had a "manager" on the phone, where I said, here is the link to THE EXACT car you have at $1,000 less. She said, nope, I have no wiggle room. Then she said something about her manager. Meanwhile I asked to speak to the main manager at the shop, as I was ready to buy today.

I can't wait for her phone call at the end of the month when that car is sitting there and she asks me if I still want it. I am highly debating if I want to be a complete jerk to her. I think I will keep it simple and tell her that I don't want to work with her and would like to work with the final manager that makes the finalized decisions.

I think with it being mid month, none of these guys care. Especially at Jeep.

In terms of the huge numbers JL are selling at, I was reading two separate articles that there are JLs sitting on many lots. I know that for sure because I have 10 dealerships calling me for new JLs, and I told all of them, if they don't do -8% of invoice, I will just work on a group buy from here. But even then the -8% for the spec vehicle I want is still like $7K over the price of used.

With that savings, I want to lift the Jeep and do other fun things with it. That's why I am suffering through the used buying process.

Thanks for the tip, I will reach out to them to see what they have.
So why didn't you just call the guy selling at $1000 less and buy it from them?

I find it crazy that they let you walk away and didn't call back on a deal for $1000, unless you were already asking for too little. If they let you walk away, and never call back, they aren't making a profit from you, so your offers might actually be too low. Jeeps are expensive... maybe switch tactics, downgrade to a sport S you might have more options there? since you are already thinking of lifting the jeep and upgrading it. Unless you really want the Sahara. I really don't see why people like the Sahara so much. If I was looking for a Sahara type vehicle I would look somewhere else tbh, much better deals at Toyota. Also, don't mention you have a trade in until you settle on the new vehicle.

A one year old "courtesy vehicle" with a sticker of 40's? Lol, my ass.

Not to be a D, but you sound kind of whiny. ---I tried. I called. They wouldn't give it to me. Someone else bought it.--- You sound like a nice, big soft target for salesman. You asked some salesman IF you could talk to a manager? No. Says thanks, bye. Hang up and call the sales manager yourself. Call 8 fng times until you get him if he's not there.

It can be easier said than done, but know what you are willing to pay for a certain vehicle before you contact them. Don't wait to see what kind of deal they will give you. Think about it, you are calling up saying, "Can I give you less money than you want for a car you're going to sell regardless?"

Also, how are you paying for this? People have zero interest in dealing with people they don't think have any money. Are you talking about finance with these dealers? Saying that you'd like to put no money down?

I didn't get a great deal on my Wrangler but I was in a tight spot. I still got 3% off MSRP. I also went there and left two times before putting a deposit down. Magically both times I left the deal got better afterwards. I left 3 fng times when I bought my wife's Kia. And when I came back the fourth time and said I was still on the fence - which I legitimately was - the owner/manager took me to his office and slid his hot, throbbing, meaty.....NO. He took me in and gave me the fourth and last proposal which was a lot cheaper than the first three. It was a phenomenal deal. Nothing works better than walking away politely. And if they dont come around and do better than F 'em. Find another one. Only reason they aren't willing to talk after you walk is because they know they don't need to. Salesman get paid big time percentage wise on used vehicle gross profits. I would't throw away hundreds of dollars of personal pay either. Just make sure your expectations are reasonable. You're not going to get a high demand vehicle for free.

And yeah, there are a shit ton of 18's still sitting around. But not EVERYWHERE. Not a godam one near me. It's all relative homeslice. No dealer likes you. No dealer cares about you. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$:(

my girlfriends 2016 jk we put back to stock form with 22k miles and got trade in value at 30k even, if that tells you anything at all
I'm selling my 2015 JKU to vroom for something similar. Looking at their inventory they're probably barely going to break even lol.

To the OP: Try to find a dealer that does 6-8% off a new vehicle - they're not hard to find. You'll probably be able to get a new one in your budget, and then you can ride the wave on resale.

... unless the market for SUVs that get awful gas mileage crashes again in the near future. It's possible.

Ha, that's where I am doing it!

That's what I did, I literally offered 36,000 + my trade in ($1K) and they said, nope, too far apart. Can't do anything for you. That was my starting point.

So why didn't you just call the guy selling at $1000 less and buy it from them?

Good tip on the trade in. I will do that.

As for the $1,000 thing:

1st time: found the car at 10:15 at night. Had meetings till 1PM the next day. Called the dealership ready to pay full asking, and the car sold at 12:15 that morning.

2nd time: Was calling for the manager to say, hey let's split the difference to get this done. Manager was out that day, so I told the sales person and she said the other manager had to call me back. At the same time, the other manager is selling the car.

In both cases, the price did work, so I don't feel like I am off on where I am, I just feel like Jeep dealership's in specific don't care at all. So I am hoping to find a non Jeep dealership, because that's where I am identifying they want to work with you.

As for the Sahara, they offer some things I prefer that even out when just getting the Sahara over the Sport. No way am I getting a Toyota or something else of the sort. I live by the beach and ski a minimum of 20 days a year in VT with my son. Top off durning the summer, and driving snow covered beat up roads durning the winter. Don't get me wrong, my wife can get the Toyota. I just want the Wrangler.

Ha, no worries bud. Not being a D.

I know how to negotiate. Never been a problem before. I got my wife into a fully loaded Lexus RX350 for $350 a month with $1,500 down. Before that car, she got into a fully loaded Buick Enclave for $350 a month and 0 down. Car Before that a Toyota Highlander at $325 with $1,500 down. All sticker prices $45K and above.

It's definitely not my first rodeo at all.

It's just with these dealers at Jeep specifically, they are pretty much telling me they are not interested. They are like, I will sell the car anyway.

When I call em, I say, I like the blah blah blah you have on the floor. I have $36,000 to buy the car now, so can you do something? Then they say I don't know, blah blah blah. I ask for their manager, and get what ever bullshit manager. Same song and dance. So on and so forth. BUT ONLY AT THE JEEP DEALERSHIPS. I am about to go to my bank with and take out $36,000 in cash and show up at the dealership, and be like, you see this, you wanna sell me the damn car or not?

TBH, with new cars, I can negotiate the shit out of it. With these used JLs, these Jeep dealers think they are sitting on gold.

As for the 18s. the dealership literally 10 miles from the dealer I called, had 7 18's sitting on lot. My issue has more to do with looking for a specific package / configuration.
