My 15' Cherokee had the same switch set up and that controlled the accent lighting however in my new JL it doesn't do anything. Either mine is broke or can't notice anything.

I found the one on the right dims the dash lights, while the one on the left only seems to control the floor lighting. What the heck? Is there anything else that left dimmer does? Weird.
Dims Floor and drink holders I believe..

I'm curious if my 8.4 inch touchscreen will be dimmable separate from the dash lights. While night driving I like bright dash lights but subdued touchscreen. All I see in the manual is that I can turn the touchscreen off.
My wife and I both prefer bright dash and subdued touchscreen and I see no way to achieve this without turning off the touchscreen completely. I wish the lighting had a continuous adjustment instead of such a bright to dim step. I'm sure I could find my sweetspot.

Touch screen dims with that dial, I think... I got to go out there and mess with the touch screen anyway, I'll reconfirm shortly...

Change the brightness setting for when the headlights are on. In the UConnect.

Yeah, it controlls the footwells and cup holder lighting. But the way it works is really odd.
How does it work? I can see the slight light in my handles change but I see no light on my floor. Sport S by the way. Unless my floor lights don't work and I've just now noticed. Guess you can't miss something you never knew you had.

Rubicon may have more lighting, I think I read that somewhere a while back. Maybe check the owner's manual.

I did find that setting on the UConnect, but it's grayed out for headlights on (value of 5 so it's set midway) both on auto and manual settings so I can't change it. I can only change it for when headlights are off.

My Sport has the light on the floor, but you have to turn the right lighting knob all the way up until the overhead interior light comes on, which also makes the floor light come on. Then moving the left scrolling light up and down, I can't tell any difference with the lighting. Not sure what it's supposed to do.

Did you try and change the settings with the headlights on?

Ok...I figured it out!

The right dial as many knows does the...Dome, daytime brightness, then nighttime all the way to a low dim. This is for the dashboard, buttons and cup holder.

The left dial does the accent lighting for your feet but only works when the right dial is somewhere in any of the nighttime dim levels.

Hope that helps...

Thanks I was confused too. But I knew they were working, I would just fiddle with them until I got what I wanted. Hey, I have the hard copy manual now! I should see how it's explained. But you did good, explaining it.

Yes, tried both on and off
But what I didn't do that my son did last night was to have headlights on, switch the Uconnect display to manual setting and change the headlights off setting. Even though it's backwards, we were able to dim the UConnect using the off settings and the dash stayed at the brightest setting.

So basically the headlights on setting is not functional. Also, for this to work as described you have to have the right dial in the top 2 positions (you can feel them click in) else the dash is too dim for my taste.

This works, but when you go back to drive in the day, the Uconnect might be too dim so you have to increase brightness, then rinse and repeat at night. It's gotta be a flaw unless there's something I'm missing. There's more steps to this than turning off the ESS.

I just read that while trying to figure out how to dim the display at night. You would think they would have had a simple night mode and reversed whites to black...not that difficult. However...."Party" mode and "Parade" mode. This has sparked my interest. I gotta find out how to activate that now....anyone figure this out?

pg 65 of owner's manual: "When a door is open and the interior lights are on, rotating the dimmer control to the extreme bottom position will cause all the interior lights to turn off. Tis is also known as "Party" mode because it allows the doors to stay open for extended periods of time without discharging the vehicle's battery."

"With the parking lights or headlights on, rotating the right dimmer control upwards will increase the brightness of the instrument panel lights. Rotating the left dimmer control will adjust the interior and ambient light levels."
