Hello,
Have a brand new JLURD with 1500 miles on it. Just today noticed a weird smell from front. Looked under fender to find inner panel melted from about half way back. The panel is literally gone now. Happened on both sides. Leads me to believe that front sway bar disconnected? Have not even had it out of 2H yet. Up until today no issues or smell of any kind. Believe me, not comfortable taking high speed corners in this thing. I take the same route everyday to work. Anyone experience this?

Yes. It happened within first few weeks in my '20 JLUR. The tires were obviously making contact and shredding the liner. I found other instances of this on the interweb. One theory was that some of the liners were too flexible and some kind of aero vortex was sucking them down onto the tire at highway speeds.

If memory serves, the stock plastic liners are supposed to be tucked behind the upper spring tower.

Yeah, looks like an assembly error…back to the stealership as that ought to be a warranty issue

Really? Mine have always been in front like OP thought they were supposed to be that way?

Don't hold me to it. It's been about 35k miles since I gutted my fenders and replaced the liners. I just vaguely remember the stock liner only being outboard of the shocks. Unless there are missing pop clips, there's really ne reason for the wind to be blowing the liners into the tires. Especially, when talking stock tires and suspension.

What I am thinking is this may be caused by the removal of the bumper ends. I drove 1400 miles with the ends on without issue. I just installed winch and took off the ends. 100 miles later both inner panels gone. May be turbulence from running shorty bumper. In the thread I linked the OP was from 2019. My liners are so thin now that I’m looking at them.
Can someone with the liners still intact see if there is some kind of mount towards bottom rear of liner? I’m thinking no as I can see the entire frame now and there is nothing there to actually mount to.
Thanks

Not sure what is happening other than maybe missing some push pins (as mentioned) but i have been running no end caps on steel bumper since I added Rubi Flares and liners and have not had an issue. There is no attach point at bottom rear, just molded inward. Little dirty but you can see, no attach point.

Both of mine were sucked out at speed and rubbing the tires. And that was with a lift and 35s. Still have the full width steel bumper on too. I don't think the stock liners were designed for speeds above 80 or high winds. I had to pull over several times and cut away the offending area with a knife. These things get really soft when it's hot out.

Anyone find a resolution to this. The JT has RRT(19-063) to address this, just noticed my 21 jlr has worn down both sides of the liner, 100% stock with only 8k miles.

is there a TSB for wranglers? @JeepCares

My dealership refused service after escalating to Denver regional. Happened to me after driving through Kansas in high winds. No idea how the liner gets loose but that was definitely the cause. Having the jeep weighed down and tilted up slightly probably increases the likelihood of this happening substantially.

I ended up replacing mine with AAL inner fenders. Aluminum so this won't happen again. In total I am out $350 from AAL to replace both plastic pieces with metal instead of $300 for the stealership to replace the plastic on just one side.

Had the same thing happen on my 2021 Rubicon left side.
Dealer replaced it and everyone scratched their heads like it never happened before.
