There’s nothing like the smell of a new set of tires in the garage!
So far, these 295/70/18 (installed Apr 7th) tires definitely justify what I paid aesthetically. They look outstanding to me. The sidebiters are significantly larger than what they appeared in the few pre-release pictures floating around the past couple of months. It’s not Trepador big, but for an AT... they are stout compared to anything I know of currently available.
Noise; I rolled down the windows at various speeds and, for now, there’s not a peep out of them. At the least, it’s no louder than my factory drivetrain noise. They are, at minimum, imperceptible to my wife or myself.
Street driving; they are more responsive than my factory tires.
I re-calibrated with my Tazer and with my 2.0 eTorque, I asked my wife if the power noticeably changed. She didn’t notice anything although I know for a fact there’s got to be simply due to weight. I have not weighed the wheel/tire yet. I think these wheels are 25lbs. The tires are listed at 66.4 lbs. (edit:wrong! MT listed the wrong weight initially)
I have both the Rubicon upgrade and these Sahara upgrade wheels and went with the tire I chose because of size availability. A 12.5 was the narrowest besides the uber skinny 255/85/17 that is listed at 34.6” tall! I like pizza cutter but that’s just a bit too narrow for me. The 295/70/18 Baja Boss AT was as tall as I wanted and just the right width as well.
As expected, I need to get my 1” Bora hubcentric wheel spacers installed because at full lock, those Yuge sidebiters rub pretty hard. With those on, it’ll match up really well to the Rubi fenders I just installed. I’m getting the part numbers to the rear bumper end caps to match the fenders btw.
It drives great. No gripes so far. I’m looking forward to getting them dirty. I still have some work to do so I’m hoping for next month to be able to go somewhere local for testing these and the Apex Autolynx. I’m hoping to get lucky and not need to break out the heat gun.
Oh, and they only initially ordered 4. SMH. The spare is getting mounted in a few minutes.
The carrier is from a Rubicon and I only have the Mopar tailgate reinforcement so it does touch the third brake light mount as pictured but it flexes just enough to make room. The wiper arm operates just fine with plenty of clearance too.
