ESS is the worst part about the JL by far, I hate having to shut it off EVERY time I start my car. At least make it a permanent option to use it or not like in the settings of your Uconnect. Then we would all be happy.

Things I also hate about it....It has to be harder on the starter. It turns off too late sometimes and turns back on when I'm not ready to go yet randomly even though my foot is in the exact same position and pressure. 90% of the time I'm only stopping for 10 seconds or less so at that point it really does more harm than good.

For people who care about emissions and the environment, get an electric car.
For people who hate ESS, stop posting on this thread which had died a month ago and bringing it back to life! Just let it die.

Help requested - So I took top/doors off recently and since then, with the doors and top back on, the start/stop warning light on dash will not go off and the start/stop stays disabled. I checked the door electrical connections and all looks good. Any thoughts on what I did wrong or is this a dealership reset issue?

Doors have nothing to do with ESS (only blind spot warning system). Take to dealer. Probably your aux battery.

Yeah unfortunately that's a dealership look into thing. On a side note it's a blessing not having that stupid feature enabled :)

What does it say on the ESS page of your dashboard display?

Until you find out you've got a major electrical problem and you're stranded... :giggle:

Hi Swave1,
We recommend having your dealer look into into this. If you would like any additional assistance throughout this process, please send our team a private message and we would be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist.

I had this problem as well. The pins on my driver side door plug bent when I plugged it back up. Therefore causing me ESS alarms. My drivers door would also not cut off the radio when exiting the vehicle. I found about the problem through this forum. Sure enough when i got down low enough to inspect the pins in the plug one was bent and therefore not making contact where it should. I straightened with a small flat head screw driver and all is well ever since. I hope this somewhat helps.

I will try to post a link to the thread that helped me fix my problem.

Bingo.. That was it.. one pin was bent to side. I pushed it back and connected. Warning light no longer on, ESS works and dash message is gone. I will be more careful going forward. Thank you all very much. for the input.

The first thing I thought when I saw my first start stop system was that it was annoying. Second thought was it's probably hard on the engine. A quick google search will tell you that it does not hurt the engine in the first bunch of results, but most of us know how unbiased those can be.

Heard all my life that you should not start and stop diesels. Having it start and stop every couple hundred yards 10 times as you drive down a street every trip does not seem ideal.

It is my understanding that it is there as the result of a government mandate. I don't think the government cares much about the longevity of my fossil fuel powered vehicle. Especially when they are trying to "phase them out".

Needless to say, I have mine disabled with a Tazer. Sometimes if I'm sitting at a train or long drive through line I will push the button to turn it back on - 90% of the time it doesn't work anyway.

At least there is still an ESS on-off button (for now anyway) MDS off-on has been eliminated (sport mode disables on my 15 GC) . Upon expressing my dissatisfaction the dealer said it’s because they take an EPA Mpg hit if we have the choice to turn it off. How long will the ESS off choice last? Many vehicles have eliminated the choice.

The ESS system in the Wranglers are utter junk, made worse with the complications of the aux battery, which is buried deep in the engine cavity to make matters worse, it also appears to cause many issues.

It's was the only thing I disliked with my 2018 3.6 ESS, and one of the major reasons I was itching to get rid of it.
