This is my 2nd vehicle with this "feature." The first was a 2018 F150. First year they had it on the V8's. I absolutely despised it...despite what people say, there is a definite lag before it will actually move. Some of the roads I have to commute on require frequent left turns across 2 lanes of traffic...which can get dicey at rush hour times. The lag made me very nervous. So I paid the $120 to tune it out. With the Jeep though, (it being a manual), I have to push the clutch in before I can go anyways, which immediately starts it. The timing is much smoother and flows with my normal driving pattern. Just doesnt bother me as much as it did in the F150. In frequent stop/go traffic...I still turn it off though.

I don't think I've noticed any delay with a 2.7 F-150 (besides the turbo lag) is is that bad with the V8?

Totally agree in terms of the manual transmission. It never seems to create a lag for me because of it. But I still just don't like it. I'm trying to get used to it. I can't tell if people are looking at me at the stoplight because it sounds like my car died and just started back up, or because I'm fly.

I have a 6 speed and like ESS. It's seamless. I tend to leave the clutch depressed completely at a stop and find myself not doing that so that ESS engages because it saves a bit of gas (according to a study I read which started the whole ESS thing). When I'm ready to go even "drag-racing" quickness the engine is on and ready to go. Just my .02

It was enough for me to notice it every single time. I had to train myself to drive slightly different because of it. That was one of many issues I had with that truck. Hence...why I'm now in a Jeep.

Ah very well. I only occasionally have to deal with F-150s at work if I get the keys to one of the 2.7s we have here. Most of the time it's an older 4.6 so I don't have to deal with the overly aggressive ESS on the F-150. I agree the implementation on the Jeep is better.

I think they had it on the 2.7 for a few years. The V8 just got it in 2018...so maybe a first year issue kinda thing.

ah, well I've noticed that with the 2.7s here at work they will auto stop and start multiple times in one stop, over heating and cooling or if you creep forward at the light... The Jeep just stays on if it has to crank up for the A/C, much less annoying.

Right there with you! I used to keep the clutch down and let my engine idle when I stayed in gear at every stop light, but this is the first vehicle I've had with ESS and I've been enjoying it! I've been playing the clutch-up and ESS-on stoplight game and seeing how much I can improve my overall fuel economy ... and it's working, 1.5mpg gain this last month is a significant saving over time! I'm super happy how quick my Jeep is to respond and start right back up when I push the clutch back in again :)

Got my Sahara December 6, 2018, the ESS broke March 12, 2019. Left me sitting in a six lane intersection in LA.
Now, along with the airbag requiring attention. Brought it to the dealer at 7:50 am. as per the appointment. At 4 o’clock in the afternoon they told me I’d have to leave it there overnight.

Dealer called at noon and said that the airbag and the ESS are bad because of a seatbelt issue. They’ll get to keep it another day. Parts not in stock.

So the nice Jeep lady who’s trying to help, and the guy with a problem should carry on their detailed conversation about how to resolve said problem here on the thread? Personal information and all?
Huh?

I'm concerned about the serious safety issue being swept under the rug, not scamming the poster for personal information.

This isn't the first JeepCares post that has tried to redirect a touchy subject to a private setting.
Huh.
